I do remember. New Gator Ball Coach Spurrier absolutely hated artificial turf! He had it torn up and replaced with grass. Interesting, because I remember the year before the UF Athletic Department spent a lot of money having new artificial turf put in on Florida Field.
But the new Ball Coach wasn’t going to have it!.

Just looking over the history of the Series I just remembered a fantastic and so unreal game in 1995.Gators were on an away game to Columbia. The weather was absolutely horrible for a road game! Strong Winds with Freezing Rain! The ole Ball Coach was probably concerned for the very first time of taking the ball on Kickoff. He told Danny if Gators won the Toss to just kick off the ball. Unusual because SOS always wanted the Ball on a Kickoff. But the young QB Danny Wuerffel said “Coach we can take the ball! And of course the ole Ball Coach had confidence in his young QB ! So Danny lead the Gators on the opening drive all the way down the field for a Gator TD ! Now I was watching the game on TV and it was amazing seeing it. Remember the TV showing at Halftime a nearly empty stadium and get this, TV also showed cars leaving the parking lot! So glad the ole Ball Coach listened to his young QB. Am sure others on here remember that 1995 too!

 

Chomp some chickens today Gators. Bring home a much needed victory.
