The Sandra Day O'Connor and RBG accounts factor in. I forget the exact details, but O'Connor felt that she was manipulated and forced in a way that would not occur with a man. That factored into RBG's ill fated decision. And DF has been mentally unable for years, but plenty of men have been carried in similar circumstances. Female legislators are understandably sensitive about being held to a different standard.

Yeah I watched a whole special on it. They would prop Wilson up to make him seem more alert and in tune than he was. She would sign many of the docs for him, and even design policy under the guise of “this is what my husband wants”.

For better or worse, those US senators are far from pawns. I would elevate them, at the very least, to rooks/castles.

In addition to all sorts of other independent/3rd party oversight of these selfish clowns, we need some independent "auditing" of their mental fitness. Notes from your long term doc are BS

Something I did not realize. If Feinstein were to resign, her Senate seat can be filled but not necessarily her seat on the Judiciary Committee, at least without Republican forbearance. They are purportedly privately promising they will provide the votes to seat her replacement on the Judiciary Committee. But that's an unenforceable promise. I know what I think about relying on it.

And without a replacement, no more judges voted out.

the family likes the benefits, much like the Biden family. They are too addicted to the benefits to do what is right.

Makes more sense why they're trotting out her shell to keep voting. Dems seemed to have learned not to trust Republicans to abide by past norms when it comes to court appointments.

Feinstein is worth almost a quarter of a billion dollars. Don't think her current gig provides any material value compared to that. You'd think her kids would rather just spend some time with mom as her family is set for generations.

not material value but access and prestige perhaps?

Biden doesn't need the money either but I bet his granddaughter sure loves living in the White House. She seems to have a lot of influence on his decision to run the first time and again from what I have read.

Or opposed to Biden's immediate predecessor the symptoms of whose cognitive decline is apparently considered a positive by his supporters. This was from 2017.
Trump wasn’t always so linguistically challenged. What could explain the change?
    And those was from 2018.

How are we ever going to get term limits when the people who have the terms (like Feinstein) are the people who have to vote in the limits?

I remember Newt Gingrich with his proposed "Contract with America," which included term limits. A blatant insult to our intelligence, as if there was any way it could happen.

There is one possible solution, of course, and that is Donald Trump back in the White House and simply abolishing Congress. He has already suggested once doing away with the Constitution. But too many people now just ignore his blathering, which could be a big mistake. His attempt to overthrow the government near the end of his first term would be unfinished business for his second term, while ironically it's his apparent 2024 opponent Joe Biden who is using the slogan "Let's finish the job."

Grassley is another, so is McConnell.

I also think conducting hearings in shirt sleeves and a tie, and always looking pointedly around as if expecting applause, are signs of pre-dementia.

So a person with dementia can't make their own medical decisions but they can't be removed from a position representing millions of people...

    Seems messed up.

That’s over-stated. There are many - from both parties - who are principled and trying to do the right thing. Liz Cheney was one, so we’re Adam Kinzinger and Adam Schiff. One doesn’t have to like them personally or agree with their policies to respect them.

Interesting that one was defeated, another avoided defeat by not seeking re-election, and the third is vilified by many.

So, one might be disingenuous to say all politicians suck. It’s usually the ones from the other party.

Expulsion of a member of Congress requires a 2/3 vote of the applicable body.
