Where else are people gonna hold their money? There is inflation everywhere. I suspect it’s more to do with instability.

Bookmarked. We’ll see. It’s a stupid plan to drive people out of jobs. If that’s the plan it sucks.

Yes they've bought tons of votes with money promised decades out, and now it's decades out so that money is coming due. They've managed the economy, budget and overall country (infrastructure, education, etc...) incredibly poorly and these chickens are coming home to roost. SS was "invested" in sub inflation Treasury bills, education has gone from STEM and life skills to sensitivity and experimental failures, infrastructure is crumbling, the nuclear family (backbone of a country) has become a relic, etc...

They've created an environment that discourages young people from having kids at or beyond replacement, which they need to keep up the ponzi schemes they've created. Who would want to have 3 or more kids when life is nearly unaffordable for the middle class?

Anyways, I don't think that the powers that be ever thought inflation was transitory. I think this whole situation is being used to inflate away government debt, Lord knows they'll never, ever run without a deficit. They don't even pass budgets. But if they said this out loud people would realize they're being scammed. Once inflation has made the debt more manageable they'll reduce rates, who cares if the peasants lose 30% of their wealth and get foreclosed on after losing their jobs?

By they I mean politicians, not a specific party.

We did cut off immigration for about a year. Covid cut off immigration by about 75% in 2020-2021 from an already declining number of immigrants due to Trump's policies. We closed the land borders and most consulates. So before you come in here ignorantly spouting accusations, perhaps it would be best to know what happened.

You realize that falling birth rates are pretty much a feature of every developed country in the world, right? It has nothing to do with social security, infrastructure, the national debt, or any of the rest of this list.

I'd argue that it does in the US. Why would a couple (a productive middle class couple, not SNAP/section 8 leachers or the elites) want to have 5 kids when food, homes, education, cars, and everything else is so expensive? When the government takes, takes, takes but gives only to the leach class and elite? When education is more concerned with pronouns and not offending people than education? When 15% is taken from you and "invested" in a ponzi scheme making saving for retirement a real challenge? When healthcare is often too expensive so you can subsidize non payers? Stop giving our money to takers and instead invest it in infrastructure, real education, and fixing SS and healthcare costs for people who actually pay. Encourage more traditional families and values. Then sit back and watch as a secure middle class has kids.

This isn't a European website and to be honest I couldn't care much less about Europe than I do save things we need them for. But regardless of that, what countries in the developed world don't have poorly managed budgets, destruction of nuclear families, rampant middle class financial insecurity, etc...

Much of the EU has better infrastructure but arguably this is only due to the fact they have nearly no defense budget as the US protects them.

I've heard citizens of third world countries are generally more happy as well, and from my experience this seems true, but that's a different discussion.

Yeah, the reason that middle class people don't have kids is not because poor people aren't poor enough. And the education stuff here just shows that this is more about your personal resentments, not an honest assessment of why people have children or don't. In fact, a pretty strong argument could actually be made that SNAP and Section 8 housing and your other complaints likely increase the birth rate by decreasing childhood poverty rates and lower the abortion rate.

Quite a few developed countries don't have some element of each of those. And there are developed countries that aren't the US or Europe too.

So they aren't having kids because of their lower defense budget?

Yeah, it is far from true. Here is a list of the happiest countries on Earth. They aren't third world countries.
