MAGA not only supports the decision to ban red dye #3, MAGA and RFK Jr are the reason it is being banned. The Biden administration banned it because they don't want the Trump administration to get credit for making our food supply safer. Speaking for MAGA, that's fine by us.

As for RFK Jr, he will be confirmed.

As for the FDA, it kills and harms far more people than it protects per economists Sam Peltzman and Milton Friedman in 1972-3. The FDA should have been abolished long ago. Typical gov't agency that does more harm than good

Next thing you know they’ll be doing freedum destroying things like banning the sale of 64oz Big Gulps and promoting healthier school lunch standards.

Agreed. At least the FDA will be getting a good leader. A leader that knows it has failed for a long time. Like you said...if they want to take credit for this. Fine. It is a good thing. And a result of the election imo.

Just like all things MAGA, purely symbolic. Let's see if they ban chicken bleaching. They won't, because actual $$$.

CA actually passed a law banning it in 2023, and more recently passed another law in 2024 banning 6 more artificial colorings.

So it seems the wheels were in motion. RFK’s position on this a good thing, at least insofar as it got MAGA on board with things they would previously oppose. Kind of interesting how they will make the legal case, “listen guyz, the FDA should’t even exist, but it has the absolute authority to regulate food additives”.

Donald Trump Jr, Robert Barnes and Rich Baris convinced Trump that he should unify the political left and political right by bringing RFK Jr on board. I'd bring Obama on board and give him credit if it resulted in better and much cheaper Healthcare like they have in Singapore.

If you or anyone else is interested in why some of us oppose the FDA here is Milton Friedman:

I was incorrect regarding the possibility that the food industry would fight the banning of Red Dye No. 3. It's not used all that frequently anymore and it's gradually being phased out. That being said I still believe that RFK Jr. will not be confirmed. While Red Dye No. 3 may not be all that important ultra processed food and the use of other additives are major contributors to the bottom line of the food industry and Kennedy has expressed opposition to both. The food industry is a major contributor to political campaigns and they're certain to lobby against Kennedy's confirmation. It's also likely that some hard line prolifers will oppose him even though he has walked back his former hardline prochoice position with respect to abortion somewhat saying that the issue should be left to the states. I don't think his anti-vax position will sit well with liberal Democrats and they're certain to point to the effect of his anti-vax position in Samoa.

RFK Jr has stated he is not anti-vax. I think he wants vaccines to be tested for safety.

I don't think Bobby opposes the measles vaccine.

Bobby had nothing to do with the measles cases in Samoa to my knowledge. Correct me if I'm wrong

Tell that to the parents of the Samoan children who died of otherwise preventable measles infections.

It would be much more accurate to say that he's trying to walk back his anti-vax position.
RFK Jr. Tried to Kill the Covid Vaccine When It Was Needed Most
While not RFK, Jr. himself this is reflective of his position on vaccines keeping in mind that this guy could end up as the chief counsel of the FDA under an RFK, Jr. HHS Administration.
Kennedy’s lawyer has asked the FDA to revoke its approval of the polio vaccine

This is some grade A partisan bullshit. There is no shadow end date a Presidency’s actions, nor does a President see or personally direct every action under the Federal Agencies.

The red dye 3 petition was filed by outside groups in 2022, the FDA in turn filed their own petition to ban it in 2023 (Federal Register :: Request Access), and took public comments for an extended period. The FDA, like many agencies, never moves quickly as it takes public comment and has to give due consideration by law and to minimize the chance of opposition lawsuits.
