I love that they just went ahead with it after realizing it wasn't the hotel. Just no concern at all for getting the details right, encapsulates the entire 4 years.

When you ignore science…you create that problem for yourself. Our public health agencies have been abject disasters. Now they recognize how bad they have been and we let them fix it. Sigh.

Anthony S. Fauci, M.D.: Man For Others, Servant Leader

In Tony Fauci, the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed a perfect exemplar, even more for me, sharing a common heritage of a Jesuit high school education in the City of New York.

This common bond of a Jesuit high school education is amongst the very strongest of any in American education, unknown to most who do not share it. And what Jesuit high schools offer is exactly what we need most and are sadly lacking in our country—education that offers strong academics, yes, and in a more disciplined environment that supports teaching and learning. But those attributes you will find in any of America’s finest public or private high schools.

What Regis High offers, what Fordham Prep offers, what all Jesuit high schools are built on is a foundation of leadership and humane, yes, spiritual values. Men and Women for Others, is their mission. (Fauci recently spoke at his alma mater to discuss the impact of his Jesuit education. That interview can be found here).

You did it, Q! Your weekly threads on a Gator message board about one of the worst Americans ever (lol, seriously?) were finally more than that insidious 81 year old public servant could bear.

    Good job, buddy!

Sometimes I wonder if Fauci gets so much hate because some people still have some hate leftover after all his work with HIV. They felt like gays were getting what they deserved, and he was working to thwart that.

I really can't find a functional explanation for why so many people send so much hate his way.

No tears here. Just hope that we get respectable people in place that follow science.

There is a reason that killing the messenger is one of the oldest tropes in literature, dating back to Ancient Greece. We had a massive pandemic that killed millions around the world (and didn't do the normal thing of only killing people in poor places) after economies were shut down. That is a random event that is out of control, which is terrifying to many people. It is also challenging to people who want to reject that they have responsibility to their communities beyond doing whatever they want. That combination made killing the messenger an attractive option for some people.

He is one of the leaders for the worst public health policy and disaster of our lifetimes with keeping kids out of school. He peddlers that nonsense while ignoring science. He will go down as the worst public health official in the history of this country. That is bedsides the connection to gain of function that seems all to close.

Fauci may have been overcautious and made some mistakes. But an interesting thing about Covid is that the vaccine was probably the biggest achievement of Trump's administration yet it's the one thing even many Trump supporters are skeptical of or don't like. I think that would have gone differently had Trump simply been more serious about Covid earlier. Also, I think if Trump had simply focused on calling out some of the more stringent restrictions/mandates instead of attacking his own experts, he would probably still be president. Politically, I think Trump tripped over his own ego and committed political malpractice. Fauci is a reminder of that to many Trump supporters IMO.

The world ain't deterministic, it is stochastic. Add imperfect & incomplete information & even optimal decision making results in lots of "mistakes". going all in with aces against 1 other person is always right*, but wins only 80% of the time.

    * on the bubble in a tourny can be an exception

And imagine, if every other country in the world with sophisticated science, education, and medical professionals offered similar or more restrictive recommendations than Fauci. Oh, wait, that’s exactly what happened across the globe.

I think you're giving people too much "credit" for remembering or caring about what Fauci was doing decades ago. I think many believe that the Covid "plandemic" was orchestrated and/or greatly exaggerated not only to take away our rights but also, and more specifically, to harm the economy in order to hurt Trump politically and handicap him for 2020 so the deep state could take him out of office. Many clearly think Fauci was part of that effort.

faucci was used as a scapegoat for trumps colossal failures in responding to the Covid pandemic. anti vaxxers had nutty conspiracy theories regarding faucci and pundits like tucker and Alex jones went after him….. But good to see faucci get credit. I anticipate those who work in and understand the science realize his value.

“Scientist, physician, and public health leader Anthony S. Fauci received the 2021 NAS Public Welfare Medal for his “decades-long leadership in combatting emerging infectious diseases, from the AIDS crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic, and being a clear, consistent, and trusted voice in public health.”

    Anthony S. Fauci

“Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, has won a $1 million Israeli prize for “defending science” throughout his career. The Dan David Foundation, which is based at Tel Aviv University, said on Monday that Fauci has won the prize for “courageously defending science in the face of uninformed opposition during the challenging COVID crisis,”

“Hundreds of members of the College of the Holy Cross community stood shoulder-to-shoulder packing the Smith Hall atrium, as well as the hallways of the floors above, as its Integrated Science Complex was named the Anthony S. Fauci Integrated Science Complex on June 11. The buzz from their chatter soon erupted into applause and those sitting rose as one, providing an ovation for the man they were all there to see, Anthony S. Fauci, M.D”

Nobody ever said MAGA people had to make sense. They hate him because of a terrible pandemic that inconvenienced peoples lives for a couple years, and these Karen’s and Daren’s couldn’t deal with not always being able to do what they want when they want for a little bit. That and the imbecile who was our president at the time told them all it was not a big deal and that they didn’t need to wear masks. They believe the injecting bleach guy knows more than actual scientists, it’s a hoot.
