Are you assuming the lyrics meant Fanny played with his junk...before he even had junk? Did you see that written somewhere else? These are the lyrics before the nursery comment: I was just a skinny lad Never knew no good from bad
It will take a lot of spin for me to think this song is not talking about abuse. I thought that was always part of the undercurrent of the song. You telling me an adult needed a "naughty nanny" in his "nursery"? "Knew life before i left the nursery" means what exactly?
The lyric actually is "But I knew love before I left my nursery". Now, love can be many things a child needs but I would think she (or his lyrics) wouldn't go there before music critics/fans revolted. Perhaps she was only naughty when he entered 'manhood'? Didn't they burn Beatles records after Lennon said they were more popular than Jesus?
Pretty sure it is "life". At least thats what every song lyric site shows...but either way Fanny was a pedo. The song shouldnt be on a kids playlist.
Not sure how a baby remembers anything. Pretty sure the lyrics are just for rhythm. fat bottom girls lyrics - Search (bing.com)
Practically every young girl is a fat bottom girl these days Avg weight of a female 20 and older is 170 lbs
Interesting. I had interpreted the lyrics and melody to be that the average looker was ok to be with. Thinking of a phd in astrophysics writing a song about this topic is both odd and even more funny with a gay man singing it! Dumb to cancel
I'd question whether we should take lyrics so literally? Nursery just might be a metaphor for youth-- even teenager--and nanny might be figurative for the first girl he learned about sex with. Could be older etc. but maybe not. Seems too that Brian May wrote the song. As far as I know he's never addressed those specific lyrics as being attached to any abuse.
Not vague, but also not “abuse” in the historical context like we judge today. Underage male fantasy with a older woman wasn’t all that uncommon.
Yeah - it's a May song and I think he had a shy, sheltered childhood. I believe he said he didn't lose his virginity til later in life. Maybe he was writing about someone else's childhood abuse, or is covering up his - but I think it was written as a silly song. Do rapist "make the rocking world go around"? I mean, I'm glad we're discussing song lyrics. Song meanings are great conversation, but why exactly is this a thread?
Apples to covfefes Might not be vague but it's still a good idea not to take them literally considering the art form.
I always liked LOLA by the Kinks! Liked the rhythm and the message was quite funny. Certainly not appropriate for kids given the subject matter.
That's a fair point. Perhaps the boy being left alone with the woman he thought/hoped was naughty was just the boy's fantasy. In terms of the age being alluded to, the word "nursery" (to me at least) seems to be synonymous with "daycare." That seems consistent with the boy being quite young.
