As I read the #s-
Miami had a 2% increase in fans to over a million, roughly the same as Auburn.

Fsu had twice as many fans as UF in 2022.
Ga t had as many fans as UF and more than Aub.
BC and Duke had more fans than UF and Auburn.
Ole Miss only had 136k fans in 2021? Hell, they have almost that many in the Grove every Sat.

I could go on and on, but what a total crock. Embarrassing to even print that nonsense.

What a joke of an article. Miami could not even sell out the bottom bowl of their stadium for a game. UF has not gained or reduced their fan base. If you are speaking of brand recognition nationally, then perhaps you can measure these items if measured consistently from year to year. UF had more brand recognition and followers in Florida than any other Florida college.

 

Who cares about fair weather fans, they were never actual fans to begin with.

 

The writer apparently came up with his/her own agenda then searched out info to support his/her preconceived notions. I don't know how they accumulated this info, but it is one of the worst articles I've ever read. Too bad I won't ever get the time back that I wasted reading it.

True, but many real fans are turned off by the current product that is college football.

 

While that's true, as I'm not as enamored with it either, anymore, Gators fans certainly aren't turned off to a greater percentage than any other program. Fans across the board are turned off by it.

 

The article seems shady. I don't believe most of it. However, it should be no surprise to anyone that teams that are winning a lot or are generating positive press or have shiny new uniforms or whatever will have more people who claim to be fans. Teams that have hit a slump for a while will have less so-called fans. The only things that really matter are: 1. How many people attend the games? 2. What are the TV ratings? 3. How much merchandise did they sell? 4. How much money is the program taking in (donations or other revenue)? Florida definitely beats Miami, FSU, and most other schools in those 4 areas. I honestly don't care how many people claim to be fans

 

No doubt, I hate the NIL version of college football. Totally destroys the excitement of the season. However, I still watch every single game.

 

I did not take the time to research on how this opinion was reached. I do know that Auburn rallied around a 3-6 team with an interim coach who was playing another 3-6 team in November and their stadium was sold-out. I have spoken to multiple people who went to that game and they said that night ranks amongst their favorite sporting events ever...... just something that you don't see if their fanbase is "shrinking". There is a lot wrong about college football but that night was not one of them.

 

I guess you really know your fan base until your team starts losing. I'm not sure how you can deconvolute loyal fans from casual fans with all of the factors at play, including social and broadcast media, youth and grade school coaches, bagmen and the other usual suspects.

 

Really dumb article with no explanation of where their conclusions were drawn from. Sounds like something coming out of Joke Shamble world.....

 

NIL and portal signaled the end of me buying season tickets. I hope many follow. I’m still a fan but it’s mostly due to history.

 

One program not shrinking: Nebraska had over 66k fans at their spring game. Huskers are fans to the end.
