Right. And I was concerned about Waites having a chance to come back this year just because of his size and the mature of the strain from that position. Bobby and others had said otherwise and i was skeptical, but I'm glad he may get a chance this year.
"Saturday, Billy Napier named redshirt sophomore kicker Adam Mihalek the field goal kicker, while redshirt freshman Trey Smack will handle kickoffs." Congrats to both. I hope we see Smack more than we see Mihalek.
I like how confident he sounded about kickers and snappers. It's likely this group will win us a game or 2. Add in an above average return game and solid coverage and we'll have solid special teams all around.
I was watching ESPN yesterday (I wanted to see Jeremiah smith, but I didn’t get to see too much of him during the game). They had a segment of the impact transfer QBs, and noticed they didn’t even mention Mertz. In fact, they discussed how awesome winsconsim incoming qb will be without mentioning Mertz. I know the knock on him has been his decision making, and the discussion of wisconsins offense vs his skill set, blah blah. All the clips of Mertz this fall have been impressive, but has his decision making been improved? For all the talk of the great receivers and potential there, has he also been getting picked by the defense? Showing good decision making in addition to the explosive plays with the receiving corps? Just curious if the int bug from the wiscy days seem to have been corrected through the transfer and shown in fall camp?
TBD He may look great in practice but we won't know until we see bullets flying. Has he matured and really improved? Or will he revert to bad habits under pressure. No one knows. Having great protection, running backs and receivers should help him settle in.
