That’s the biggest hit so far. And it’s deeee-licious. Not only did their starting QB opt out, he did it only a few days from the game instead of two weeks ago when he could have.
Not sure where, but I saw him (Tate) listed as OUT at least a week ago, so thinking FSU has known. No way way it from the concussion vs us that he played through. What does their 2 or 3 deep look like vs GA now? With Rodemaker set to transfer, Florida State will likely start Brock Glenn in the Orange Bowl against Georgia. This will be Glenn’s second consecutive start for FSU. He’s the last remaining healthy scholarship quarterback on the roster as AJ Duffy has also entered the portal and Jordan Travis is still recovering from a leg injury.
According to this article, UGA has had 17 players go into the portal. This doesn't include those going pro. https://www.si.com/college/georgia/...l-harris-has-entered-the-ncaa-transfer-portal
FSU beat Louisville with their third-string quarterback so this loss should not be a problem. They’re that good.
Glenn set the world on fire with his 55-yard passing performance vs. Louisville. Should be an epic shoot-out on Saturday.
Nah... Travis was a 6th year QB, Tate was there 3 or 4yrs, & 95% of their team was upperclassmen transfers. Then add in a JOKE of an acc schedule & a few lucky breaks got them to 13-0. If you think about it, this will be mid major Mike's recruits going against Georgia, and it'll be a bloodbath. Even if Triple M hits the portal hard, he doesn't have the luxury of a 6th yr QB with 4yrs in the same system.
They have probably known since word got out that they were courting two portal QB's in DJ U and that Ward kid. Rutabaga has been with the team 4 years and feels he deserves to play. Obviously Norvell doesn't feel that way and thinks he can get a better QB in the portal so it makes sense. The other issue is if you as a coach don't think you have a capable QB on the roster, why did you recruit the ones you have in the first place?
Honestly I am 100% certain all staff at FSU are encouraging players not to play in their bowl game. It isnt beneath them to want to hide their season of smoke and mirrors to get to the top. Nothing would pop that baloon more than a full squad getting steamrolled by their first top 10 opponent in many years. Georgia was going to clobber them with or without the opt outs n ow they can hide Covid style.
Glad to see this happen to the Holes, however this is a snap shot of what CFB faces in general. The sport will continue to be eroded.
It isn’t going to make any difference. It’s not like anyone outside of Tallahassee is going to buy the excuses. I seem to recall a Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma a few years ago where many of UF’s key players said “I choose me.” No one said that beatdown “didn’t count,” including and especially the Crims who tuned in to watch it. This loss will count against them just as much and will undermine their bitching about being jilted by the playoffs just as much.
FSU is in deep doodoo next season with their attrition. There are potentially 5-6 losses waiting on them unless they supplant Ole Miss in the portal rankings. Notre Dame, Miami, UNC, Clemson, Florida, and I wouldn’t look past Cal, SMU, or Georgia Tech.
I dunno, I don’t believe the real power teams ever give a shit and there is always a letdown. Our teamed mailed it in against Oklahoma. A lesser team like Oklahoma St, those kids took the game as the biggest game of their lives and of course our guys sat and didn’t care.
Nobody knows what the portal will give us or any of those teams. Ol miss had a decent team last year that was clearly not really that much better than we were. Georgia stomped em just as bad. They just won the games they were supposed to and didn’t have the meltdowns that we did. They have pulled a few really good portal players, but I do not think that is going to get them over the hump with Alabama or Georgia. It’s still not even close more than likely.
Ole Miss has a much better coach which makes them a much better team than us. If Ole Miss is in the ACC this past season or next they’re likely undefeated. FSU needs to put together experienced talent ASAP or they’re going to be miserable in ‘24.
I believe FSU would have stomped all mess this year with Travis. You saw what Georgia did, they really weren’t that good
FSU wasn’t running through their schedule like the 90s with Travis. Kiffin would have beat the brakes off Norvell.
The only game Ole Miss won this year. That was very impressive at all was LSU which is not all that impressive. They gave up 49 points to LSU and barely squeaked it out. Their schedule was pretty weak. They played one top 10 team, which was Georgia And got beat by maybe five touchdowns I don’t know. They aren’t that good
I’m not putting them on par with Bama UGA or Texas but FSU wasn’t exactly a world beater this year either.
