We probably agree on most things. My only problem with your posts is how hard you ride our coaches. If threatening their job security and taking potshots at them actually helped accelerate progress I’d be right there with you. But in my opinion, all it does is make their jobs coaching and recruiting more difficult. That’s the only point on which we bang heads here.
Wanted to post but can't respond right now. Will just say that NO Gator fans are not rejoicing at the young man's mistake. https://247sports.com/college/georg...ing-to-let-this-mistake-define-him-229372871/
I fixed it. Thanks for the link. Edit: I had trouble opening it in Brave and Firefox but it opened in Chrome. Here's a telling paragraph: Per the report, the arresting officer was alerted to Etienne after the running back's car braked hard at the Macon Highway and South Milledge Avenue intersection, resulting in his tires screeching. The officer then followed Etienne and witnessed him pass a vehicle on a blind curve and double yellow line on Will Hunter Rd. Then Etienne passed another vehicle on a double-yellow line section, which resulted in the officer turning on his emergency lights. The officer says he reached speeds of 80-90 mph in pursuit of Etienne, who eventually had to stop at the gates at Retreat apartment complex. When questioned, Etienne admitted to having "three beers way earlier," refused a sobriety test while answering questions with slurred speech and swaying side to side, and said he would push his car home if he needed to.
How do Georgia and kirby avoid getting absolutely roasted for this stuff especially after what has happened with Henry Ruggs and Jalen Carter in the recent past? Ruggs was Bama but that alone should have been a come to Jesus moment for all athletes. The Jalen Carter incidents should have elicited outrage from the public and some reform in their program and yet....drunken, swerving, speeding and reckless driving once again. We are talking deaths and public engagement, not some petty arrests and yet nothing. What a cesspool.
Is that really hindering "actual progress"? We're talking about fan opinions on a messageboard If the coaches were spending hours on the internet, lurking around Swamp Gas and reading posts about themselves, then we have bigger problems
Denial. Constantly riding the coach -especially in the off season when he can’t even post a win to quiet some of the noise, is counterproductive. All this negative prognosticating about when Coach is gonna lose his job, has to be detrimental to recruiting. You gonna say these kids don’t read the message boards? Really? That’s denial. Face it - none of this fan backstabbing is purposeful. At the very least it tears down morale.
Putting this together with the way he and his family trashed us on the way out, it comes off that our coaches actually had him behave and held him accountable. And now he's in Athens its "I'm gonna do what I want- this is how the Dawgs roll!!" Agree with an earlier poster that its amazing that Kirby and co are not roasted. I mean we were constantly roasted nationally over guys throwing a sandwich or getting off at the same bus stop as their ex. (The most used bus stop on campus.) "Program out of control, etc." Now Kirby's boys are killing people, or driving in such a way to kill people- and not a peep. Georgia fans- hope all this winning is worth it. You look like scum bags to me...
The media has to get into an almost Sandusky like feeding frenzy for anything to happen at UGA. As long Kirby can sell his anything goes policy to recruits nothing changes.
The primary thing that is detrimental to recruiting are the L's that have piled up. Fix that, continue to tweak our NIL and recruiting will fix itself.
Serious question: How much of an affect did fan's disapproval have on Muschamp, Mullen, and Mac's departures. And if there was an affect, was it warranted?
Well DUH — but right now Napier can’t post a win to satisfy anyone — so y’all just gonna keep bitchin and whinin and stirring up more ‘when would you fire the coach?’ discussion for the next 5 months until our team takes the field in September? SMH — this logic is no different than a little kid who thinks screaming louder and louder will get him what he wants
Probably little to no effect. This board likely doesn’t affect our athletic staff’s decisions at all. Bull Gators and boosters likely do, but not this message board. Y’all continue to talk out of both sides of your mouth: you claim that fan message boards and social media don’t affect 18 year old recruits’ feelings toward our program, then proudly claim the same board influences the decision-making of our athletic department. That logic is ridden with contradiction
If that is the case, think twice before you say the line of the Lord's Prayer". "And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
If a few media types take this on as an investigative piece then it could gain momentum. News outlets live by restating other people's work. If Georgia has a subpar year and an investigative piece came out at the same time, the wheels could come off the Kirby bus.
Forgiveness of a sin is very different from countenancing/accepting deeply inappropriate behavior. Clearly, Skink is not condemning anyone to perdition, he's expressing his attitude toward the young man's words and actions and the immaturity and lack of rectitude those words and actions betray. If you knew him better, I believe you would have realized as much.
I agree with hobegator. At some point some negative momentum is going to hit Georgia and it’s going to be hard to reverse. Kirby should be walking on eggshells right now but the perception is that it’s business as usual in Dawg country. The next incident may be the one that rockets Georgia’s indiscretions to the front pages. Even if it’s not a major crime. One thing for certain about today’s talking heads like Paul Azzbaum, they love to pile on.
