Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you with the republican vision for education in Florida ... apparently the dictionary defining the word "sex" is too much for republicans to handle.

A Florida school district has pulled over 1,600 books from its library shelves for review — including Webster’s Dictionary for Students — to ensure they comply with the state’s new sex education law that prohibits books describing sexual content.

The Escambia County Public School District, in the Florida Panhandle, pulled five dictionaries, eight encyclopedias and “The Guinness Book of World Records.” It's also reviewing the biographies of Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey, Anne Frank’s diary and “The Autobiography of Malcom X,” according to the Florida Freedom to Read Project, a group that seeks to protect students' right to information.

They contained the words "woke," "racism," and "gender." Couldn't risk those dictionaries indoctrinating the students.

Escambia might as well be somewhere in the Mississippi delta these days.

Oh it is quite dumb, but these books were only pulled for review, they have not been banned. Quite a leap to say they are banned but that wouldn't fit the narrative.

The law is not only stupid but it is poorly written. Perhaps all schools should do this to point this out further.

I would agree with you there. Poorly worded legislation is the norm, it seems. Unintended consequences for everyone seem what most legislators want!

I don't believe the problem was made up. When kids were forced to not in person attend school and had to "zoom" many parents finally had a chance to see what teachers were teaching. That caused parents to rise up and want a review of what is really going on. I don't get why anybody wouldn't want to ensure that the libraries of schools and what's being taught in class in appropriate. This is how it started, not some "make up a problem" idea.

Even pulling them for review borders on the absurd. Reminds me of Duval County pulling biographies of Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente for review because the books discussed the racism experienced by those baseball players.

Right wing extremism is just beginning. A changing planet will accelerate it. History has repeatedly shown that in "hard times", right wing extremists worm their way in and offer hope, and when they come to power, they seize it absolutely. The Escambia County School District, encouraged by the Worm In Chief, is worming its way in.

I just put 2 kids through k-12. If you think parents had/have no recourse in the absence of hysterical laws that centralize power, create idiotic bureaucracy & piss away tax payer money then you support the BIG GOV circus.

And those who rose up were the idiots who don’t want their kids learning more than they know? Jeez the stupidity here.

Of course someone is defending a review of the dictionary and encyclopedia as something that totally makes sense... of course they are...

So, is that the measure now? If you want to try and allow your kids to be kids and try to not expose them to things that the parents feel are inappropriate, then the parents are idiots? Glad to get that straight, if you have any thoughts of parenting that don't follow the liberal ideology, then you are idiot. Every day the left keeps exposing themselves for who they really are. Thier way of thinking is the only way. No wonder the country is so divided, it is no longer acceptable on the left to disagree and you all call the right cultists.
