A win is a win. Winning by 2 or 4 means nothing really. It is still a win. The safety was a good call.

Odds are this won't be an issue again.

They had three timeouts otherwise we wouldn't be talking about this. With that said, it was a good call. We had the points to give and anything could have happened, but it didn't. Given their apparent history of blocked punts, it did give us room to punt.

Would have had Mertz take the snap and race to the sideline and slide down in bounds to shave a few seconds off the clock on first down.

Mertz tried that before , ended up taking a late-ish hit and had his whole O-line come to his defense , which started a raucous causing us to miss some key players the following game. I'm not seeing the issue with the play that was called considering I've already seen an issue that can arise with trying to dance around playing keep away to run down the clock.

I'm very happy (as you can tell by my avatar).

I tried to be clear I was just interested in the discussion. I've been on this forum for over 20 years... I've learned enough to know there as just some people who want discord rather than discussion, and to go after other fans. That's their right... just thought it would an interesting discussion.

    Go Gators.

throwing shade on the decision was exactly your intent! A shanked free kick?? you gotta be kidiing right if you're concerned about that, Safety exactly the correct call.

Pretty sure it's not illegal. What is your take on the Florida Flop?

Well Gus, I think that was the intention on the safety but the Carolina defenders got deeper into the end zone than I think Napier had planned or Mertz expected. Mertz did the right thing getting OOB before contact. Ultimately the goal on that series was to not have a turnover 1st and kill as much time as you can 2nd.

Well I certainly know better than to get in pssn contest about this... but you in fact don't know my intent better than I do. I thought it would be an interesting discussion, by the looks of it, there was plenty of discussion that I found interesting. Yes, I'm sure a punter is capable of shanking a free kick. Of course it wasn't likely. Regardless, again, not looking to beef with anyone.

But just a 10 yard penalty though right. The penalty is no different if one guy or 10 guys do it at the same time right? Unless they call it unsportsmanlike conduct. That's what I was meaning.

Fair points. But 1st down he pretty much went straight to ground. Win the game. That is what matters. A lot more fun discussing this after a win.

Perhaps Napier could use a staff member’s analytical skills to determine which kind of play takes the most time off the clock and run it.

a free kick doesnt have to be a punt, it can be a regular kickoff...much lower likelihood of a shank on that

I remember that highlight... when it happened. LMAO!:D

So, Michigan tried to punt the ball... FAIL.

Miami tried to run the ball... FAIL

And we smartly lost yardage purposefully on all 4 downs so that we could give them a free safety and win the game... WINNER
