There is no point in me responding, as I know you will just disagree with it anyway and I don't need you to validate my opinion.

Of course, nobody has mentioned TSLA's stock up nearly 9% in the past 5 days.

Come on, that's not good. If you go out of your way to claim that many of Musk's tweets have had a role in saving the US from tyranny ... then you should be able to point out a couple.

Actually, I never went out my way way at all. WDG brought up the "tyranny" talk. Anything I said about tyranny was in response to him. In any case, I reserve the right not to be baited into an argument that we all know will go no where.

It's in 4 or 5 ETFs I'm holding long term, so I'm not rooting against it, but the 9% climb is hardly a blip on the graph when you look at the big picture. It's that tiny little bend up at the end of the graph below...

I think Musk's best move would be to appoint a CEO for Twitter and Tesla ... maybe it's his Asperger's, which often results in ability to relate to other people, but he's probably hurting both companies with the way he is acting. Something like Space X, which is not really a consumer facing company, where a supposed genius can do his best work, would be best from him to focus his attention on.

Uhhhh ... what? Actually, you brought it up in post #1105 by posting Musk's tweet... that's where the "Musk is saving America from Tyranny" talk began ... I just had questions ....

These same talking points have been repeated many times throughout this thread, but the constant remains that none of you are qualified to determine where Elon's efforts are best. Sure, you can opine, but when you keep re-posting the same talking points that have already been posted here many times already it's really not that original.

Hey, if you can have the opinion that Musk tweets are saving America from Tyranny, then I can I have the opinion that Musk tweets are hurting his consumer facing products...

I suppose one argument is that letting these ideas and movements fester in darker corners of the internet may help them build numbers because people who don't look for this sort of stuff may not know (or may pretend not to know) how prevalent it is. Also, that counter-speech is the best remedy to bad speech. Sam Harris talked about this on his recent podcast. His take is that the traditional argument - that sunlight is the best disinfectant - simply doesn't apply to justify providing them with a platform, particularly when such rhetoric is often magnified by algorithms. Of course, even then, there are going to be difficulties in drawing lines such as Trump can post but Alex Jones cannot or Ye can post but Nick Fuentes cannot.

Not just his public facing actions; his products are no longer top tier either. The Plaid starts at 130k (the one the wife speced was 136k with autopilot) and looks like a Toyota. The I7 is cheaper and a much better buy. The i7 we have on order was cheaper than a Plaid with autopilot. The BMW comes with a lot more options, features, and better build quality (plus a 31in theater screen in the back seats for the kiddos).

We we started looking for a new vehicle for her in August, and she wanted electric only, Tesla’s came in last. The BMW, Audi, Benz were all better and cheaper.

The plaid has 100miles more range and isn't even in the same performance class as the i7.

Looks are personal, but a plaid looks amazing - there's one in my small town I see almost daily. The i7 looks like a Camry.

You are correct on fit and finish. Of that's what's most important to you and your wife - cool.

Familiar with that argument and it made some abstract sense to me in a prior world, much like the marketplace of ideas metaphor. But I think the last 6 years or so have caused me to reach the opposite conclusion.

But I also feel like the current arguments for Nazi speech go beyond that. It's not just the safety valve of letting those arguments not gain unintended weight through suppression, it's the argument that we need to engage in actually take those arguments seriously. That's how I read the current statements about free speech and suppression. There is no longer the throat clearing about the fact that obviously the ideas apparent and they don't agree with it. If the suggestion that you need to take the argument seriously.

I don't take Nazis seriously on a debate level (as opposed to a danger level), and don't see why they should be engaged with. I'm not even talking about suppressing their right to speak. I'm talking about those who say that they deserve a fair hearing and should be heard and engaged with, that we should all be more open-minded, which is how I interpret the most recent Zeitgeist argument. It feels like the "in your heart you know they're right" argument, and you don't want to engage in because you can't actually rebut their arguments

The Plaid design is a decade old (2012) and to me it shows. The new 2023 Prius looks like the modern take on the Plaid’s old design.

    I don’t know how anyone could confuse a i7 for a Camry.

For our purposes, fast charging was more important than range. My wife’s primary concern on range is, “can we make it to Disney World”, lol. All “new’ models support level 2 and 3 (DC fast charge).

Large sedans aren’t my jam but I’ve been in the i7 and merc EQS and wow. Blows the Tesla out of the water. Saw my first Lucid yesterday which looks really good in person.

The plaid does have that 0-60 1.9 second launch but that works one time subsequent launches lose pace and really how fast do you need to go? For me the answer is 0-60 in 4 seconds and the various offering from Audi, Merc and BMW will all get there in the mid 3’s. The thing is even inexpensive EV’s will go fast. Selling points will remain reliability and creature comforts.

Actually, Musk himself brought up the tyranny talk. And no one baited you into saying Musk tweets saved us from tyranny. You did that yourself.

He manages engineers better than almost anybody. That is a skill but it isn’t universal.

I don't doubt it. I claim no special knowledge in the area. I have not studied his career. But I did see some people on twitter so there's a big difference between type of engineers had supervised previously and the software platform engineers that constitute twitter. I don't know whether that's true. I do know that Twitter's operational demise was predicted but does not seem to have occurred. I have seen some differences but the platform still functions. Again, I'm not going to pretend to have any specific knowledge of the engineering aspects. I will just say that he seen some incredibly stupid things and he seems to be spending an awful lot of time online for someone trying to rework a massive company
