well the demographic of his followers is rapidly changing from those that can afford a Tesla to those that can afford a new cell phone so maybe he is in front of the curve and Tesla will become a tech company instead of a car company.

lol @ being "worried." You gonna have to throw away your Elon Musk pajamas now?

Unless I owned stock in one of his companies I can't fathom being "worried" about the success/failure of this dude. So weird.

Samsung has already met the needs of that particular segment too.

Never said Apple was beholden to anything. Was just pointing out your flawed analogy with Tesla.

My analogy was to highlight Elon’s hypocrisy on “free speech”. Just like Tesla chooses not to advertise which is their prerogative, Apple can choose where they wish to advertise.

I won’t disagree with you there and do not this it’s wise for Musk to challenge Cook publicly, unless he’s doing it as a marketing ploy himself to drum up the demand for a new phone. Speaking of Tesla and advertising, Musk could use Twitter to market the new phone without paying a cent more.

The funny thing about this claim of him forming a phone, to do what, specifically? You are talking about entering a market with three of the Top 10 profit companies in the entire world (Apple, Google, Samsung) and in which another (Microsoft) was essentially expelled by the other three. It is a mature market with limited growth in developed countries and growth, dominated by Chinese manufacturers and Samsung, in developing countries. The firms are incredibly inter-dependent (e.g., Samsung makes screens for Apple, Google makes an operating system for Samsung, etc.). If you are going to step into that environment, you better have a very good idea. And Apple was mean to me is not a good idea.

It wasn’t his suggestion. He was asked if his app was banned would he build his own phone… he goes “sure, heck yea”. He has no plans for the phone market.

I believe there are other tweets in months/years past from Musk talking about a possible phone.

Apple shares slip on report iPhone production taking a big hit from unrest at factory in China

    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/28/apple-stock-down-on-report-of-iphone-production-shortage.html

    • Apple could see a production shortfall of almost 6 million iPhone Pro models, Bloomberg reports, citing a source.
    • The slowdown comes amid a protest against Covid-19 restrictions at Apple contract manufacturer Foxconn’s flagship factory in China.
    • Customers who ordered iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones last week could expect delivery times of 37 days, according to Counterpoint Research.

Yea I saw that. So what was the purpose of the tweet other than just to remain the center of attention for a few more minutes, until the next request?

I don't know. I'm sure it was "ironic" somehow.

Legalities aside, why are we having a debate about permitting Nazis on a private forum? I understand the First Amendment issues, way back to when the Nazis were permitted to march in Skokie Illinois in the 70s. That's one thing. But why would any self-respecting American want to give Nazis a voice in a private sphere they control? What more do you have to see and know to realize that Nazism is not a voice which needs expression?

I have no desire to engage with them, to hear their point of view, or even to permit their point of view to be expressed within any small sphere I could have influence over. I see no value in ever been exposed to the perspective of Nazis. I can't believe people think this is a difficult issue. I can't believe there are those who think it virtuous to be open to them.

What giy drinks diet coke? Trump does but he’s hardly what most would see as a masculine figure. I don’t know a single male who drinks that swill. If I absolutely have to drink a low calorie soda it’s going to be Coke Zero which at least tastes pretty similar to regular coke.
