“Tweets hurling racist abuse at footballers, including the N-word, monkey emojis and calls for them to be deported, are not being removed by Twitter. the platform failed to act on 99 out of 100 racist tweets reported to it in the week before the World Cup Twitter fails to delete 99% of racist tweets aimed at footballers in run-up to World Cup | Twitter | The Guardian
I don’t think deciding to allow the likes of trump back on but disallowing Alex Jones is inconsistent. I think anybody really thought Twitter was going to be 4-Chan 2.0.
Trump is just about as bad as Alex Jones. Two peas in a pod really. Jones is more vile for sure. Trump is more “influential”. Pick your poison. I don’t check Twitter enough to know how much it’s “changed”. But let’s take the racial harassment of the “footballers”, that sort stuff definitely happened on the old Twitter even with their moderation policies, but if it goes essentially unchecked on Musk’s Twitter then it basically is 4chan.
Elon Musk trimming the bloat out of Tesla stock has been masterful. Disney fired their CEO for far less blundering.
Trump is a former president and essentially got a 2-year ban from the platform. How long do you propose to ban a former president from posting online? Thank you at least pointing out the harassment of minorities was occurring before Musk arrived. Most of these stories aren’t pointing that out.
He was banned for being a danger to Americans. How has that changed? He still spouts off lies about the election outcome. I don’t care what Twitter does with Donald but he is no less of a danger now than he was.
of course. But now under Elon they are soaring. Report: Tweets with racial slurs soar since Musk takeover
If Trump came back to Twitter and tweeted the 2020 election was rigged or stolen, that’s his opinion. What people do with that opinion is not on Twitter or even Trump. Now if Trump starts organizing a riot from his Twitter account, that’s obviously a different story and I believe Musk would ban him again for that. But merely stating an opinion that the election was stolen falls under free speech. When we start telling people they can’t say an election was stolen, that’s pretty scary. People tweet controversy all day long on Twitter. Unless they are actively engaged in setting up a riot or something to that effect, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Oh, you mean bad people are taking advantage of a new owner of a business? That never happens, does it? And do we blame the new store owner when he gets robbed in the first week? Of course, not. To intimate Musk encourages racism on Twitter is simply dishonest.
a ridiculous analogy. And speaking of dishonest - No one ever said musk encourages racism on Twitter. Spare us the victim card.
wow, I haven’t checked it lately. Dropping like a stone. Off 7% yesterday high of $403 last nov, roughly $170 now. That’s quite a haircut. 1 week
A couple of weeks ago on All In podcast they talked about racist tweets going unchecked. They said almost all of them were by bots which were followed by other bots, essentially being tweets to nobody. . That may not be the case here. Also much is being made about the number of people leaving. Apparently years ago they were functioning with 1000 people. While they have grown user wise since then, it isn’t anything close to seven fold. I think we just have to see how it all plays out. Lots of potentially premature grave dancing. Frankly I could give a crap either way.
Can't speak for others but I check it regularly (almost never post). If I hadn't known about the ownership change, I don't think I would have noticed.
I am only on Twitter for Gator sports, and since Musk took over, I see Elon Musk on my timeline almost every day, and way too many ads and suggestion tweets. It’s quickly becoming worse than FB.
