That’s a rather ignorant statement. If you can’t account for your employees production without seeing them work; you are a horrendous manager and have a very unproductive measure of production. I have worked remote for 20 years off and on; sales; I have never been more productive and worked more hours in my life. Modern tools make waste of 2 hours on the road; all the time bullshitting in offices; and 2 hour lunches a thing of the past. I’m at my desk at 6:30-7; don’t take but 10 minutes to make my lunch; and leave my desk between 6-7. Most jobs should be production based; if you can get x done in 1/2 the time as someone else then good for you; go take a run or go to the gym. That rarely is the case. I can assure you if there is no extra $ in working extra time toward end of quarter; I’m going Skiing or Biking. That’s never the case.
Elon Musk putting Twitter behind a paywall could ‘sound the death knell’ for the social media platform, experts say | Fortune So I don't have a twitter account, and I definitely do not plan to now, but being a "hater" or "fanboy" aside, what is the point of using this site if everything is hidden behind a paywall? Personally, (and I know they serve different purposes, which I'm still trying to figure out with twitter) I find reddit or linkedin to have at least engaging conversations about any subject matter of interest. I guess I'm not seeing the value, but then again, I'm not the wealthiest man in the world; just a poor schlub who looks like Brad Pitt and has muscles like Thor. What do I know?
I agree. Most people are working more doing more peoples jobs from home. I am not seeing productivity issues myself. I’m seeing people a bit burned out though. I think video meetings are a bit more draining than in person meetings.
100%. People who have never worked remotely have zero clue on how much more productive you actually can be. As you said, the time to travel in/out of work, waste of time from watercooler talk, and random office engagements that do nothing towards the bottom line is saved with remote work. The only people who would find issue with this are terrible managers who have zero clue on how to manage staff to productivity. If anything, leadership should be questioning the need for these types of managers.
So Musk tweeted to his followers to vote Republican. Media bias!!! Elon Musk Puts His Own Politics on Display on Election Day While I have sympathy for him in that democrats have treated him horribly, he is rapidly decreasing the possibility of Twitter being a mass media source and will have to rely on being the next right wing echo chamber. He better get the my pillow guy on speed dial for advertising. He continues to shoot his toes off one by one.
And now they are (maybe) nixing the second check mark? Seriously, he needs to be listening to somebody... Twitter briefly rolled out gray 'official' check marks. Then Elon Musk changed his mind | CNN Business
Surprised nobody has mentioned this, but it has been kind of a busy news day… did anyone catch Biden’s remarks about Musk? Basically said Musk should be investigated simply because he does business with the Saudis. Wow. Doing business with the Saudis is obviously not a crime and I see no probable cause here. Pretty scary our federal government are trying to intimidate certain citizens who just happen not to be speaking their language any longer. This was not a small thing.
CNBC reached out to dozens of currently active blue check verified users and asked if they would pay $8 to keep their blue check. The number that said they would pay is ZERO. In fact, many of them said Twitter should be paying them, since they have millions of followers and drive revenue to the site… Last week, tech journalist Kara Swisher (1.4 million followers) wrote that she “would not pay a dime for verification.” FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver (3.5 million followers) noted that even though he can afford the subscription fee, “my reaction is that I’ve generated a ton of valuable free content for Twitter over the years and they can go [fudge] themselves.” Similarly, author Stephen King (6.9 million Twitter followers) tweeted: “[Fudge] that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.” In a reply to King’s tweet, Musk responded: “We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers.” A Twitter poll posted by Jason Calacanis, a Musk ally and reportedly a new adviser at the social media platform, asked users if they would pay $5, $10, $15 or “wouldn’t pay” for the blue checkmark. More than 2 million accounts responded, and 81.5% of them said they wouldn’t pay anything. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/10/pol...-users-pay-to-keep-their-blue-checkmarks.html I mean, they have a point… Musk is basically saying “pay me to post so I can make money off your followers… “
Elon in a state of panic. Sends teary message to employees that company may not survive because advertisers are big meanies and rich celebs (who bring people to twitter) won’t pay a stinking $8 to get a blue check by their name. Laments loss of $44B. Read it a weep for him Elon Musk Panics, Emailing Twitter Staff Economic Picture is ‘Dire’ and App May Not Survive Downturn Edit: underreported in this story is that his debt service costs are $1B. I’m certain that they’re not cash flow positive at that level.
The type of thing that could be discovered with a little bit of basic marketing research. BTW, the rollout is going very poorly, with tons of people engaging in activities (some even allowed because they put "Parody" in their bio) meant to deceive people (you don't see "Parody" in the bio if you see a re-tweet of it or if you see it on a third party website like this one) . Here is an article on the beginnings of it from a sports perspective: Sports Twitter is now a verified hellhole thanks to Elon Musk - SBNation.com
Imagine paying a massive premium over market value for a company when your first email to its employees is about how dire the situation is.
LOL ... Elon just wants his $8/mo. It makes zero sense to "verify" a person falsely posting as LeBron James even if they did put "parody" in their bio. What exactly has twitter verified? This is just flat out stupid, and ruins the experience of instantly knowing if it's a credible account from a real person just by looking at the "check".
Yeah, it’s dumb. Prior to the acquisition I saw alot of chatter from those wanting their “blue check” or lamenting that they didn’t have one (or just making fun of it) but the whole point of verification was to… well… verify the identity of celebrities and “officials” (government, maybe some corporate accounts/CEO’s). Musk blew up the whole system because he sided with a bunch of pseudo Celebs and Twitter users who don’t have the same purpose of needing verification. Basically just green lighting scammers to pay $8 to spam nonsense.
And Forbes breaks down why advertisers are leaving…. And “middle finger Mario” is the poster boy. Shocked to learn that corporations frown on using their name, logo, IP, in offensive posts with blue checkmarks next to them… ‘Middle Finger Mario’ Becomes Mascot Of Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue Verification Free-For-All
from his memo in that link. Is he trying to degrade employee morale? “Frankly, the economic picture ahead is dire especially for a company like ours that is so dependent on advertising in a challenging economic climate….. …..We are also changing Twitter policy such that remote work is no longer allowed unless you have a specific exception. Managers will send the exception lists to me for review and approval. Starting tomorrow (Thursday), everyone is required to be in the office for a minimum of 40 hours per week. Obviously, if you are physically unable to travel to an office or have a critical personal obligation, then your absence is understandable.”
