Reiterating again that I’m a Glover fan & preferred him to Appleby so not an attack on him at all. One aspect with competition level is the greenlight & level of talent around you. Excuse my use of personal experience as an argument but it’s relevant to Ques transferring down (and guys like McKissic not translating when they move up) — when I played on bad teams in AAU I would occasionally have 20+ point games with 5 three’s playing against D1 talent because I had a total greenlight and knew I had to get shots up. When I played on elite teams, I’d get maybe a few buckets tops against the same level competition because my role would be to hit open three’s and defend, ending up on the bench for turnovers & bad shots. Glover has the total green light at Sanford that he would never have at UF because we wouldnt need or want him to take 20 shots in a game, which is an aspect almost always forgotten in these kinda arguments. He can have a huge scoring night at Ole Miss when he’s the #1 option in their biggest game of the year but he wouldn’t be a highlight machine when he’s just one of many options playing at Ole Miss on a regular Tuesday of conference play. Again, I think he’s great but it’s not the same situation because P5 schools would have 4 other guys who need to get shots and minutes too
McKissic didn’t translate because he was forced to play one-on-one ball at UF. That wasn’t his game. Interestingly, Ques’s game is off of the bounce, so he likely would have done very well in White’s ridiculous offense if he was the point guard. Glover shot 52% in the paint for Samford. That’s where he took most of his shots. He played really well against Ole Miss, Oregon State, San Francisco, Chattanooga, Belmont, Furman and other solid teams. He scored in double figures in every game. He was 3rd in scoring and second in assists in the league, and he moved the ball. In many of his games, he would play the first 15 minutes of the first half with hardly taking a shot and then he would explode offensively. He got everyone involved in the offense. I can understand the assumptions that many of you have made about Glover. However, they’re wrong. I base this on having watched every single Samford game in the second half of their schedule. Glover performed way beyond my expectations of him. He played just like he did in high school despite the higher level of competition. It will be interesting to see if he decides to go to a power conference after next season, although to do so and not sit out a year, he likely would have to first graduate from Samford which could be tough to do in only 4 years in school.
If you’re talking about Glover, it’s going to be very difficult for someone his size to play in the NBA even though he can jump out of the gym. He should make a living playing basketball, but I have my doubts about it being in the NBA. Cheese is hanging on barely even though he is a spectacular ballhandler and passer. We will see.
I have given you a lot of flak over your obsession with Glover. But, let me say this right now on record… the young man is nice on the court. Tight handles, and he can crossover very quickly whether it’s between the legs, behind the back, or any combo in between. The elevation he gets off his jump shots is very impressive… dare I say, rare and elite? I’d take him back here at UF in a heartbeat, but he’d likely never return after what what happened to him here. Is he as exciting as Scottie, Cheese, or Mann? Not sure, but I wouldn’t be willing to say he isn’t capable of it, based upon his current skill level with the ball.
I don't get to read any Tampa posts for some reason, and I hate it. I always got a good laugh which we all need. Tampa you were right as I was talking about seeing wilberkin play and kept saying cheese I have mixed them up plenty. You might not get this as your security is hard to get by.
Tampa, I'll raise you Teddy Dupay and Scottie Jordan Wilbekin. With a side of Chris Chiozza and Erving Walker. Samford plays in a nice conference, Glover was misused and quite frankly mistreated by the previous staff, but there is still a big drop off in Competition. Todd Golden's first year Florida squad would be beat Glover's team 8 maybe 9 out of 10. Depends on if Kowacie comes back.
Another point, imagine how exciting Bradley Beal and similar guys would’ve been if they played for & against teams with Samford level talent. He would’ve scored 30 ppg as a freshman
Well then, I guess no more talking about Beal, Noah, Horford, Wilbekin, Cheese, Nembhard et al. None of them currently play for the Gators, although they all did at one time. The talk about Donovan, White, Grant and other coaches also should immediately cease. While we’re at it, let’s stop talking about Tebow, Emmitt Smith and the rest of the former Gator football players. Mike Zunino? Stop it. No more Erin Andrews or Marco Rubio. Forget about Faye Dunaway.
How did he end up at UF? Wasn’t he born on a mountaintop in Tennessee? Never mind, that was Davey Crockett. Did Davey Crockett go to UF?
It’s not far out at all. I have not said that he is better than or as good as Wilbekin or Chiozza. What I said is that he is the most exciting since White Chocolate. All you have to do is watch the video to see it. His crossover dribbles, multiple speeds, stutter steps, fadeaway jump shots, etc. are incredibly exciting. I can’t think of a Gator other than JW who comes close.
