Egg Prices $oaring in the US under Trump

Just not worth it. Taking a hiatus until prices come down.

 

We get 4-6 eggs a day from the few chickens we keep at the back of our property. Might start selling them to neighbors!

 

I scored 30 eggs for $14 a couple of weeks ago, and <$5 a dozen last weekend (still haven't even touched the 30).

As i said up thread, I've always thought the "incredible, edible egg" has been under priced/valued forever.

So nutritious, so healthy...

Imho, $1/egg would still be pretty decent for what you get.

(Meanwhile, ppl will spend a pile more on junk food, cokes and booze, without batting and eyelash).

Don't think it was "libbies" who voted for Trump because they thought that the price of eggs and other groceries were too high and back in November eggs were around $3.00 less a dozen than they are now.

USDA rushing to rescind mistaken firings of key bird flu response personnel

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is scrambling to rehire "several" fired employees who play a key role in the agency's response to bird flu, an agency spokesperson has acknowledged.

NBC News first reported the story, quoting a USDA spokesperson, who it did not name, as saying the firings were accidental.

"Although several positions supporting (bird flu efforts) were notified of their terminations over the weekend, we are working to swiftly rectify the situation and rescind those letters," NBC quoted the spokesman, whom it did not name, as saying Tuesday. "USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service frontline positions are considered public safety positions, and we are continuing to hire the workforce necessary to ensure the safety and adequate supply of food to fulfill our statutory mission."

"Several job categories, including veterinarians, animal health technicians and other emergency response personnel have been exempted from the recent personnel actions to continue to support the HPAI response and other animal health priorities," the statement said. "Although several positions supporting HPAI were notified of their terminations over the weekend, we are working to swiftly rectify the situation and rescind those letters."

 

Why are we still blaming Trump for this when Biden was the author of chicken holocaust ?

 

So Joe Biden was responsible for the H5N1 Avian flu infecting chicken flocks. Who would have thought and all along I was under the impression that it was caused by wild birds infecting domestic poultry. For a senile old guy Joe Biden has an incredible ability to influence nature. I would also add that virtually all of the egg laying hens euthanized would have died anyway. The bird flu is both extremely infectious and has a near 100 percent lethality rate among infected chickens.

That's because Trump's presidency is too recent to be on a list like that. The reason why (other than Trump) all the presidents are from 1940 and before (other than a one off for Carter and Nixon) is because it takes perspective to judge the efficacy of the president and that comes with time.

Trump set unrealistic expectations when he announced during the campaign that he would lower food prices on Day One. With his dubious grasp of economics, and his propensity for self-delusion, it's possible that he even believed he could do it. It's fair to criticize him harshly on this matter, because not only has he failed to deliver on a self-imposed deadline, there's been no evidence, that I'm aware of, that grocery prices are a priority. Indeed, dealing with inflation seems low on his "To Do" list, superseded by renaming the Gulf, decimating the federal government, and dancing with Putin. Meanwhile, non-billionaires are finding no relief at the grocery store.

Who the hell is eating all these eggs? First off, eggs can't be hoarded like TP since they go bad (unless you are buying and eating them out of spite).
If I knew how to start a poll I would ask how many eggs does a person eat in a day. I MIGHT buy eggs once a month and then it's only a half-dozen size. Maybe I'm the outliler.

 

With TP it was stupid irrational to hoard toilet paper because nothing changed the supply of toilet paper. The only thing causing the shortage was actually the morons doing Costco runs getting multiple industrial sized packs at a time. Hoarding caused the shortages, and as stupid as it all was at some point even rational people probably bought extra when they found a store that actually had the stuff.

In this case, there actually is an interruption to supply (avian flu causing loss of chickens). Maybe the attention being paid to it caused some irrational purchases, but as you say eggs can’t really be “hoarded”. I’ve only actually encountered *empty* shelves the 1 time.
