The time has come for those recruits who desire to close their recruiting to sign with the schools of their choice. When Is Early Signing Day in 2023? (msn.com) "The early signing day has become an established part of the college football calendar and takes place in December and is open for 72 hours. In 2023, the early signing period is open starting on Wednesday, Dec. 20. 2023, at 7 a.m. local time, and ends on Friday, Dec. 22. 2023. At 11:59 p.m. local time. The times are subject to the time zone that a recruit is signing in".
Things have gotten weird with signing periods. First we had just one National Signing Day, then we added a second Early Signing Day, but, kept the real signing day, too. And, it's also strange that Early Signing Day is actually a three-day period. So, it occurs to me that maybe there should just be an open signing period between ESD and NSD where players can sign anytime they want (at their own risk of signing too late and losing a spot in the musical chairs game). What's the point of a one-day or even three-day signing period, besides trying to make it a all a dramatic event? Maybe we should forego the commitment stage completely, because commitments are meaningless anyway, and go straight to a period where you can sign whenever you want. If you wait too long, you do so at the risk of losing your shot. If you change your mind after you sign, you sit out the season.
