it's women's BB. BYU would probably have to write SC a check.

I know you are making a joke
But consider that this will be lost revenue for BYU because they have been falsely accused of being racists and an unsafe place for the USC team. Dawn Staley has no evidence, no facts, no reason to make those public statements and cancel the game under those pretenses.

No need to be insulting. One would assume that a game against a prime time nationally known opponent would bring in revenue. I may be mistaken on that front. Does BYU lose money if this game stays on the books? I doubt it.
With it being cancelled due to Staley calling them an unsafe environment... BYU will likely lose revenue. Even if they replace the USC game with another team how likely will it be that they can get such a big name team?

Oh, now assuming is OK again. Cool cool

& why would they be entitled to reimbursement of revenue? It seems lost (incremental) income would make more sense & that would probably be a loss.

I think it's safe to say that South Carolina went off half-gamecocked.

South Carolina could easily reverse their decision but chooses not to. Apparently their coach did her own “personal research”, whatever that means.

“I continue to stand by my position,” Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley said in a statement Friday afternoon to KUTV 2News. “After my personal research, I made a decision for the well-being of my team”.

That means “I don’t want to look like a fool for cancelling a game with no proof”. I hope BYU sues if they were to lose money from the cancelled games, let alone the hit to their reputation that is happening.

Maybe I missed it, but what did the other players on the Duke team say? Did they back up the accuser, or was the accuser the only person who heard the racial slurs? If she was the only one, I suppose it's conceivable that she's hearing voices. In which case I hope she gets some help.

I am of the belief the player “thought” they heard the slur. Maybe someone yelling cougar was misinterpreted. I don’t see this player making it up out of the blue.

IOW someone could have been yelling something analogous to "Let's Go Brandon!" and to her it sounded like something else.

Maybe something that ended in "her" ....like isn't saving a serve called a "dig"? Dig her? I guess someone could have doing that on purpose on her serves, as she claims, because they know how it sounds...

I can't think of anything that would have a sound with a similar ending at a BYU CouGAR game. At some point maybe her team should have told her all they heard were people yelling Cougars. Not sure what would sound like "watch your back". I haven't seen any quotes from Duke players or staff backing up that claim.

I'm just glad that BYU investigated and exonerated itself. When the police do that, it definitely eases my mind.

Picking up on your sarcasm. I’m sure it wasn’t the Athletic Department or the accused’s family who did the investigation. The university has its own independent professional investigators who do this sort of thing just like every other similar institution. Who should have done the investigation that would further put your mind at ease? If there is nothing on the videos, then there is nothing on the videos. If all of the eyewitnesses in the immediate area did not hear racial slurs, then a different investigator is not going to find otherwise. If the suggestion is there that the university cooked the books, then why has not a single person come forward to say, “That is not what I told BYU.” ESPN would eat that up after they had earlier embarrassed themselves by jumping the gun on a conclusion. The most likely scenario is that the accuser did not hear what she thought she heard.

They didn’t investigate themselves. BYU was not accused of using racial slurs. Literally nobody other player on the Duke team or coaching staff has come forward and said they heard the slurs. You are a lawyer, right? Are you big into conspiracy theories? The amount of things you have to believe to think this actually happened is pretty impressive.

Duke came out and reiterated that it stands behind its player. Would be an odd thing to do if the rest of the team and coaching staff disputed her account, yes?

You are able to read my username, right? Because I'm a lawyer, I tend to distrust internal investigations that exonerate the party responsible for them. "Don't worry, guys. We investigated ourselves, and we're innocent."

Now, if her teammates and coaches actually came out and said that they didn't hear any racial slurs at any point, yeah, that would make me think she is wrong and misheard what was said.
