Also, not sure why the age of the video is relevant as a defense. It's not like that type of person(s) suddenly has an epiphany in just a couple years.
Because in the case of NFCU, their membership is disproportionately minority, as is their work force. It’s in their interest to fix it if they want to stay viable.
That was all true when they (with their minority membership/workforce) were reproducing racist outcomes in society. Seems like a good example of how simply hiring more minorities or having representation isnt a cure all. Really not unlike how black cops still stop and frisk more black people, just like white cops.
It isnt my rule. If I tell you I am a Gator fan, yet i wear a UGA hoodie to the game in Jax and yell obscene things at Graham Mertz would you consider me a Gator just because I said so? Or would you call me out as a fraud? That is exactly what these people do by claiming to represent Christ and his values.
It isn't really comparable. Here, you're wearing a blue shirt with an orange hat, telling people with blue hats and orange shirts they are not real Gators. You are well aware that different people interpret religion different ways. A lot of American Christians thought racism is supported in the bible and justified slavery ... until the secular laws changed, then Christians mostly changed their minds over a century or so ... Note, it wasn't the bible that changed, it was changes to Man's law that convinced a lot of Christians that racism/slavery was immoral... at least most of them... there are apparently quite a few Christians hanging on to old ideas, as can be seen in the video.
Wow. Thats some creative license. Cmon man. You know what I'm saying. I use Jesus' words to tell us what a "Christian" is. Yelling hateful, racial obscenities is not it. Jesus Himself said that MANY will claim His name, but he will say He never knew them.
All you are showing here is that you interpret religion differently than other people, and neither one of you can really prove that the other is practicing wrong. I mean, the KKK requires all members to “profess a belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior", which means they certainly believe they are good Christians on the path to heaven ... prove them wrong ...
You mean Too Hot. Especially the atheist and aggies, telling everybody who's Christian and who ain't.
No one said I can prove them wrong. I said Jesus gives a clear outline for what His followers should be and these people aren't close. Proof? Read the red letters in the Bible and show me how these folks resemble Jesus.
So when you say ... "those people are not real Christians", as you often do, it's just your opinion, and you can't back it up with anything. FWIW, Christians who openly practice racism can also point to passages in the bible that back up their postions ... Here is a well-reasoned article on the subject, that even includes why Christian slave masters thought it was OK to beat slaves for no reason at all ... it's because God wanted slaved to be ruthlessly punished for things they had done in the past even if the master didn't know about it -- and even if the slave had done nothing wrong in the past, it still worked out great for everyone. “is it not possible you may have done some other bad thing which was never discovered and that Almighty God, who saw you doing it, would not let you escape without punishment one time or another? And ought you not in such a case to give glory to Him, and be thankful that He would rather punish you in this life for your wickedness than destroy your souls for it in the next life? But suppose that even this was not the case—a case hardly to be imagined—and that you have by no means, known or unknown, deserved the correction you suffered; there is this great comfort in it, that if you bear it patiently, and leave your cause in the hands of God, He will reward you for it in heaven, and the punishment you suffer unjustly here shall turn to your exceeding great glory hereafter.” Of course, the same logic can be applied here, but since they can longer physically abuse black people, they can only verbally abuse them ... but to the same great effect of serving the will of the American version of God. It is impossible to say with any degree of certainty who is right, here. How Christian Slaveholders Used the Bible to Justify Slavery | TIME
I see you resort to scriptures that predate Christianity. You make the same mistake they do in using such scripture as an excuse to forsake Jesus' teachings. In other words you are proving my point. Jesus ABOLISHED much of what was law in the OT.
If Jesus abolished slavery, it sure took a long time for a Christian nation like America to get the message….
And the Church of England, that all British subjects and the monarchy were a part of, sold slaves to the entire world. So, more proof that Jesus never abolish slavery.
I'm sure he was but he never had to power to change it. And many people and nations simply did NOT care about what Jesus was teaching. And too many people and nations still do not care about Jesus Christ... This is a true tragedy.
