I wonder if the SEC will decide to go to a 9 game conference schedule in the very near future. This will make good OOC games during regular season even more rare.
I know I’m beating a dead horse but, this old guy still laments the loss of meaningful old rivalries. We played Auburn first in 1912 then consecutively from 1945 to 2002. It’s also the closest (278 miles) SEC school, geographically, to Gainesville yet we have played them twice since 2011 while playing Texas A&M (950 miles first meeting in 1962) FOUR times. Defies logic, defies common sense, defies respect for tradition and burns my behind. Almost like the SEC goes out of the way to screw us.

10 games in 12 weeks or if include post season 12 in 15. We missed out on the likes of Eastern Washington and South Alabama, what a tragedy. I look forward to the math that makes an 8-2 regular season, 8-4 overall team below .500 with 2 additional games.

Inductive reasoning is not your friend, because you will be smashed debating people who reason deductively.

I only need 1 data point to defeat an absolute. The overall argument is shaped by the current state of the program. If we were rolling like in the Meyer years, I believe the general sentiment more likely would to be of "bring it on."

You chose one aborted, bizarre season to draw a grand conclusion. This is inductive reasoning. Legitimate scientists of all disciplines, who employ deductive reason, look at at a broad data set, many examples, before drawing broad conclusions. Specific to this subject, they would look at many seasons.

Once again, words and logic have failed you.

You are typical of the detractors on here that don't understand the firepower coming into this conference combined with the fact the former also rans have passed us by. To get to where you are rolling, you need to win games to win recruiting battles.

The soon-to-be landscape is going to make that very, very hard based on the SEC games alone. There is no reason to take on any additional challenges outside of conference play.

Generally, if you win the sec, you the champ. You just find out later that you’re not good enough in other conferences.

It really doesn’t matter. What matters is buying a competitive roster. It’s not looking terribly promising at the moment but I reserve judgement till we see how this portal thing ends up. At the moment, it looks like we will struggle to be a ranked team.

His wording was "Show me any football team with hard matchups every week and I will show you one with a losing record." So, I referenced the only season available in this hypothetical argument that even comes close to a hard matchup every week. A season in which UF played only vs SEC competition and finished with a winning record.

However, since you are a STEM enthusiast feel free to provide the evidence that supports his theory rather than resort to insults.

Do recruits give a shit about a win over an FCS or even non P5 team? I know I don't, would be surprised if they did.

Individually, no. However, they do hear the squawking about teams going in the wrong direction finishing 5-7.

  13. I agree...This is what we must figure out as a Program.

Yep, that freaking band in The Swamp sucks... ESPN purposefully' blasted that whorechant noise louder than our own home band...

At the very least we have to make sure that any network that carries that game in The Swamp must NOT ever amplify that band and must not even put the microphones anywhere near that stinking band.

All I could here was that freaking noise. If the do it again I will just mute those clowns and play the radio telecast broadcast of the game. I have a huge blue-tooth speaker with radio capacity that will do just fine.

I can see both sides. With a 12 team playoff, your record becomes less important and other things (like sos) become more important. The committee just told us that with FSU. I could see years where the winner and loser of B10 and/or SEC championship games made it into the playoff.

That said, I always liked the two tune-up games at the beginning of the season. Helps you to work the kinks out knowing that a lot of your SEC league games were going to be difficult.

All of that said, I think keeping FSU on the schedule would be my preference. It’s a big rivalry and win or close, I would certainly miss it. In today’s day and age where we seem hell bent on throwing the past away, it would be nice to keep something.

We are seeing that we aren’t paying as much as some. The top programs probably don’t have to overpay for the top talent like everyone else does.

Same as this year. We were 8-3 in SEC play. Only three of the eleven SEC opponents had a winning record, and we were 1-2 against them.

Well, the 2003 Gators finished 8-5 (9-4 on the field) with 7 ten+-win P5 opponents and a nine-win opponent. The 2012 Gators went 11-2 with 6 ten+-win P5 opponents plus a nine-win opponent. The 2006 Gators won a MNC with only three opponents with losing records. The 2000 Gators went 10-3 with no fewer than 9 P5 opponents with four or fewer losses. The 1987 Gators went 6-6 with six P5 opponents with f3 or fewer losses. The 19...

You gonna throw f$u a lifeline like that? No thanks. Let them suffer they can win the clown national title trophy each year in their JV conference. Or not as history shows they have lost more recently than won that conference. A couple good years in the last 6

While I’d love to play UM and FSU every year, other than in state recruiting, there isn’t much of an incentive to have a strong OOC schedule anymore. With the addition of UTex and OK, in conference schedule is tough enough. Do well in the conference and we will be in the playoffs.
