If that's what happens, the failure is on the electorate.

She listed some reasons for unintended pregnancies. There are others but since you and I can't get pregnant why don't we let the person who can make the decision of what to do.

The Florida constitution has a right to privacy. Roe may soon be overruled based on the absence of a federal constitutional right. But, there still is one in Florida. So are Roe, Casey and Griswold still good law as a matter of Florida state law.

All persons born or naturalized in the USA. Doesn't seem to apply to fetuses.

That’s not quite accurate, Phil. In my area alone there’s six pro-life women’s centers that do provide support to pregnant women and women with young children. Furthermore, there’s an interfaith hospitality network which provides housing for women with children who have nowhere else to live.

Until the Republicans on the Florida Supreme Court gut our right to privacy.

It’s my understanding that biologists have been unable to agree upon a definition of “life”, just as there’s no agreement on what constitutes “consciousness”. So, I think we can forget defining “personhood”, though evangelicals will fill the breach with certitude.
ADDENDUM: I think “personhood” can be defined: a fetus which could, with a high degree of medical certainty, be capable of existing outside the womb. Until then, emotional phrases such as “feeling pain” are irrelevant, and termination of the pregnancy is the mother’s decision free of interference by the State.

Unintended consequences. My FB feed is full of angry moms right now. This is a Republican suburb and a good portion of these moms from my kid's team voted Trump.

Every. Last. One. Is angry and in a fighting mood.

This is quite probably one of most unifying things between all sides when it comes to women. A percentage will do the whole "ban abortion if you love children" thing but MOST women are sick and tired of the downright misogyny of it all. One who proudly had Trump stickers all over? She had her baby die in utero and had to get an abortion at 6 months. She's scraped them all off.

Yes it's anecdotal. But I think Republicans doing victory laps for 2022 & 2024 are in for a rude wake-up call.

We can also flip that poster around:

A 14 year old girl is not be allowed to purchase and smoke cigarettes and she’s not allowed to drink alcohol.

She’s told she's far too young to take on the enormous health and social responsibilities of consuming these.

So how is she old enough to make a decision to destroy the unborn child growing inside her?

By the way, that tweet is absurd. Nobody and I mean nobody says “we don’t care if you get raped.”

It was passed in the context of Roe etc and is supposed to be construed in accord with the federal right. Once there is no federal right, the cases are frozen.

Except there are states that don't have a rape/incest or mother's health clause. Florida for example does not have a rape/incest exception.

So the best thing for a 14 yo rape victim who is now pregnant is to make her go through a pregnancy? Going to school to be ridiculed or have to be home schooled? Put her body through all the changes that happen when she's more than likely neither physically nor emotionally ready?

And if she says she doesn't want the baby, but gets forced because someone "thinks it's what's best for her"...rape victims are in enough of a bad space. I still can't have people come up behind me. I break out into a cold sweat when I hear a specific song playing that night. Being FORCED to carry my rapist's baby? I would've been suicidal. And I was an adult.

So no. Unless she wants to keep the baby, and it's her choice, she shouldn't be made to and thinking it's a good idea to do so will likely cost 2 lives - the baby I'm sure some are saying "put it up for adoption", and the girl who will likely end up killing herself.

I have a friend who has no religious views who used to be ambivalent about abortion until he watched a documentary on sea turtles. In the documentary, they describe some people who would go along the beach and stomp on sea turtle eggs before they hatch. He was horrified at this behavior. Then it hit him, if he is so outraged at the killing of unborn turtles, why does he accept it’s OK to kill unborn children. He is now against abortion.
