I know this will sound hyperbolic. But if an opinion that can overturn Roe, Griswold and Obergfel actually comes through, it might be the first real step towards splitting this country in two. Just about every civil rights gain in the last 40 years could be gone. A whole lot of people aren’t gonna be happy where they are.
Maybe I'm naive but I'm actually surprised. Although I assumed that the conservative justices would vote to uphold the Mississippi law I didn't think that they would explicitly overturn Roe. By the way effectively banning most surgical abortions will not end the procedure. It's only matter of time before there is a huge black market for mifepristone and misoprostol in the states in which Republican legislatures effectively ban surgical abortions. Another interesting question is whether states can ban the use of those drugs since they have been approved by the FDA. Seems that there may be a valid argument that role of the FDA has preempted state laws. Potential Legal Flaws in State Restrictions Targeting Mifepristone
Also posited as a motivation for rulings li.itong and possibly sooner invalidating the Indian Child Welfare Act.
The utter stupidity of using that rationale will never be lost on me. He's arguing that we should strip Black women of their rights to protect them from their own choices. Because an old, conservative white man knows better.
That type of criminalization is in several of the laws passed within the past year. I think the Texas law may also criminalize donating to abortion groups if I heard what my wife is watching on TV correctly.
Cave men, we have Cavemen on the bench. I personally prefer the 20-21 week cut off for blanket abortions. I guess the question is, when does a fetus become a person with all inalienable rights.
Yeah, that law truly was egregious, and the fact that they let it stand for the time being showed that they are really zealots - they figured they could “save” and few thousand “babies” until they could get a chance to overturn Roe. I suspect ultimately the TX law will be deemed unconstitutional due to its extraordinary enforcement mechanisms.
It's coming. Opinion | States Want to Ban Abortions Beyond Their Borders. Here’s What Pro-Choice States Can Do.
The irony is that if that were to stand that mechanism could be used for all kinds of mischief, whether left or right. It’s a blatant violation of states rights, among other things.
Typical liberal waaaa waaaa waaaa reaction. But That’s what one would expect from the most hateful intolerant anti democracy group. The real focus should be the total disregard for decency and protocol in that a leak like this has NEVER occurred. It will be discovered who did this!
Before the 2016 election, I was getting the oil changed in my truck at a small local place. The mechanic, who was listening to talk radio, comes up to tell me all is well. He literally had tears in his eyes and starts talking politics. He starts out with, listen, I know Trump is a pos, but we have to elect him to save the babies, someone has to save the babies.
