I knew the RFQ's would be tailored to fit specific groups, but to direct DOT funding decisions to be prioritized to areas with higher marriage and child birth rates is absurd.

forget about the actual transportation demands, build roads where people are making babies

Duffy tells DOT to prioritize areas with high birth rates

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in a memo told the Department of Transportation (DOT) to prioritize communities that have higher birth and marriage rates.

“To the maximum extent permitted by law, DOT-supported or -assisted programs and activities, including without limitation, all DOT grants, loans, contracts, and DOT-supported or -assisted State contracts, shall prioritize projects and goals that … mitigate the unique impacts of DOT programs, policies, and activities on families and family-specific difficulties, such as the accessibility of transportation to families with young children, and give preference to communities with marriage and birth rates higher than the national average,” reads the undated memo, which says it is effective immediately.

Duffy, a father to nine children, is one of just a few of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees to already be confirmed by the Senate.

    That’s weird.

I assume retirement havens Florida and Arizona would be screwed under this metric.

Otherwise it mostly just seems a way to steer transportion money to rural areas. Roundabout way to get pork spending through.

What happened to the Meritorious Utopia we were promised? Shouldn't the area with the greatest need receive funding?

    Bottom of a pint glass
Hiring is determined by merit only. Socialism is determined by marriage rate.

It is funny, some bizarro alternative “social justice” metric to engineer funds away from cities and into rural areas which tend to have higher birth rates. Isn’t this exactly what they railed against?

I have a radical idea. Why don’t we let roads be built where traffic studies and engineers reports say they most need be improved!? Shocking. Give me an ROI on infrastructure.

reminds me of a joke. 2 nuns were heading from their convent to mass. They were riding bikes on cobblestone roads. 1 nun sez, I've never come this way before. the other nun sez, is must be the cobblestones.

could be rejiggered with pot holes. cuz nuns have low birth & marriage rates.

I'm frequently critical, but for the sake of intellectual honesty, I do have to acknowledge a level of consistency....

....especially with the high "marriage rate."
