I think it's clear that petty and vindictive is exactly what some voters want.

What a dishonest point. Carter was about the only decent person in politics so everyone else would not compare well.

I hope like hell Desantis can somehow beat trump. But I don’t think he can. And I suspect he knows that. I bet Desantis stands down for daddy Trump in 2024.

So ACA handcuffs recipients to a lifetime of government assistance? Having the exist without insurance is a preferable state of affairs?

SOme voters, yes, for the rest, the democrats have done a really poor job of offering them an alternative message and candidates.

and don't forget that democrats helped bankroll some MAGA candidates while failing to properly support their own and build a get out the vote machine. democrats are not helping themselves, infuriating.

Come on I Boy, you know as well as I do that if the true intent of ACA was to get more/all people insured then there were certainly more efficient ways to do so than ACA. And since the only way it stood was because the SC ruled it a tax, it would have been even easier. Personally, I would have preferred a Medicare type tax in lieu of my premiums more than doubling and an out of pocket expense of between $3k and $12K.

Government fraud and waste would be catastrophic. They cannot be trusted with such a large task. Deficit can’t take on the debt that would follow.

DeSantis may be factoring in the Garland/James/Willis wild card and the likelihood that trump may be under criminal indictment in the interim.

DeSantis (pub party) will offer DT a pardon for anything they can. I don't know if it will work since DT is convinced he hasn't done anything wrong, ever, and DeS cannot pardon him for state crimes.

I think DT is going to defeat himself and lose in NY and Georgia. NY will consume his resources while Georgia will get him a slap on the wrist and some sort of probation. They may be able to exclude him from future ballots which would eliminate any viable path to 270 for him. I still have no confidence that DOJ will ever indict him although they have enough evidence to put me under the jail after making me dig the grave.

Yes there are more efficient ways to do it, but in general republicans as well as some moderate democrats would not support them due to ties to pharma and the insurance companies. ACA was an imperfect step forward.

Did you know that states like Tx And FL pay for the Medicaid expansion but refuse the benefits? Those states could opt in and have the feds pick up 90-95% of the tab, helping out millions of lower income, disabled and special needs individuals, but they don’t because it was part of “Obamacare”. How stupid is it to refuse benefits you are already paying for?

at some point you should really comment on the actual thread topic. Is trump opening up attacks on RD? Trump has shown to be right down vicious going after challengers or those who oppose him. Who do you support?

DeSantis is not a RINO, but he is now beholden to the GOP elite. I do not think you will hear a rebuttal from him as it pertains to Trump. He was silent on the Mar-A-Lago for almost a week. He's not going to tangle with Trump at this time. There is no need to.

Desantis is fairly young. He can sit out til Trump’s health plummets further or til Trump gets crushed under the weight of scandal. Dude is on borrowed time for both. No need to slug it out is my outsider view.

Having said that I think Ron is a normal amount of crooked to Trumps historical grifting. Seems like a no brainer for republicans to me.

I would agree with your first paragraph wholeheartedly. What was even worse was to sit and watch Republican do nothing when they had criticized it and campaigned against it for 8 years.

I’m not familiar with FL and TX and what they did or didn’t do. What I do know is that my premiums went up over $5k annually ( some of that would have happened anyway) and I went from $2K to $6K in premiums and less than $1K/yr out of pocket to between $3K and $12K. For

For example; Ms. Aging recovered from cancer back in Obama’s first term. The diagnosis was in November. Our total out of pocket for a family of six that year and for the treatments in the next calendar year was a hair under $1000 for both including an emergency appendectomy for one of my daughters. Today, just the surgery and treatments alone would have put me at max out of pocket for about $24k over the two years.

For some of the Trump / Desantis supporters on the board I’m really curious where their loyalties will fall if this blows up into a full scale kerfuffle. Unfortunately I have many of them on here blocked.

Single payer would be more efficient at getting everyone enrolled and covered in some way, conservatives call that “government takeover of healthcare”. The ACA was actually modeled after a conservative concept, which of course is why Republicans were (just about) 100% against it!

It there were more efficient or better alternatives to single payer or the “compromised” ACA, the GOP never bothered presenting it. The lack of serious ideas should be informative. Personally I like the high out of pocket plans conceptually, that’s the closest to free markets as one could get (pay as you go unless you have a serious incident).

Unfortunately most healthcare goes towards end of life care and hospital care, so the idea of “free market decisions” is pretty much theoretical only. Nobody “shops around” when they are having a heart attack or stroke, but even for “longer term” disease like cancer I doubt people do any price comparisons. Its always seemed crazy to me anyone would think the same market principles that apply to washing machines or cars could ever apply to healthcare. Healthcare is more like a utility, the overall demand for care is extremely inelastic and mostly predictable outside natural disasters/pandemics/wars. On the other hand the individual demand is highly unpredictable and can be life altering if needed and found to be insufficient. An impossible free market dynamic, hence insurance, or in the case of seniors Medicare (private insurance would never fully cover seniors).

I’m not defending republicans at all. We are where we are because the Dems want single pay system and the republicans could never figure out what they wanted. So the clock just kept ticking while they both lined their pockets with campaign cash (at a minimum) from Health, Pharmacy, and insurance industries.
