You may be right. I have no polls for support, just an overall impression. The slavish adoration of his most ardent MAGA fans isn't enough for him to succeed. Even though Trump has a political hide as thick as the Republican elephant, enough arrows will bring even said elephant down. And this election just might have loosed the required number of arrows.

Said it several times before, even if Trump finally does face the reality that he will not be the Republican presidential nominee in 2024 he will do his best to bring the party down before endorsing another nominee. Trump is not and has never actually been that concerned about the party. It has always been about him. Trump is personally responsible for the Republican disaster in the midterms. Were it not for the Donald's handpicked Senate candidates, the Republicans would have been able to hold Pennsylvania, probably could have flipped Georgia and Nevada (still undecided but a probable Democratic hold after all the votes are counted), and would have had a reasonable shot at flipping both Arizona (also still undecided but an even more probable Democratic victory than Nevada) and New Hampshire.

 

But it is Trump or no one. If he isn’t nominated, he’s splitting off and running 3rd party, splitting the GOP and taking votes away from DSanctimonius. Dems win easily in 2024. You conservatives sold your soul, doubled down in 2020, and now have to face the sad reality that your party isn’t a shell of what it used to be.

 

Yep, they all knew Trump was a POS, but didn't matter. Repub politicians bent the knee and kissed the ass. And no one did that better than God Boy DeSantis. Here's a campaign ad from 2018 where he using his toddlers as props, telling them how awesome Trump is. Disgusting.

 

The consequences of the win at all costs mentality the GOP has been employing since they elected Trump need to be dire. Or else they will just do it again the next time a deeply flawed candidate comes along who can win.

This is a really remarkable claim, that as president he leveraged the Justice Department to intervene in an election. It is also almost certainly false.

It’s useful to remember what happened that year. In an echo of the midterm elections just ended, 2018 was a remarkably good year for Democrats — except for Florida. There, Democratic advantages in the gubernatorial and Senate races evaporated, leading to narrow Republican victories. DeSantis won by about 30,000 votes; incumbent Gov. Rick Scott won election to the Senate by about 10,000.

Those margins were close enough that attention turned to the counting of mail ballots in the days after the election, a process that is by now deeply familiar to political observers. So was the context in which that counting took place: Scott alleged that the slow process of counting votes in Democratic-heavy counties like Broward offered the opportunity for illegal ballots to be injected. There was no actual evidence of this; he and his allies insisted that ballots were appearing out of nowhere to be included, which wasn’t true. But it was a way to cast doubt on the vote and, potentially, to shut down a vote count that had consistently eroded his advantage after Election Day.

 

See the difference between you and me is i admit my mistakes. I was wrong on that prediction. And I still have a decent chance to win the bet. Totally Agree. BUT. I think they correctly calculated the political cost to do the right thing -with a few notable exceptions. The R votes for impeachment are now mostly former congressmen and senators. There are more loyal party politicians than patriots with a conscience. Probably both parties but the ones in the Republican Party were the ones most recently exposed.
