So Musk has talked about cutting $2 trillion from the budget. Where's he going to cut it from? Defense? Social Security? Medicare?

It won't be defense. Everything else is on the chopping block.

My guess is they will meme-ify very small ball things "OMG $100k on bird research!" and whatever catches on will be removed from the budget when they put together a reconciliation bill, and they will call it a victory even as they explode the deficit with fresh tax cuts. Essentially what Republicans have done for decades, but now in meme form.

If they pull it off and it's a bunch of bloat and bullshit, I'm all for it.

Yeah, my question was rhetorical. They're not going to cut 2 trillion from the budget. But they may well add 2 trillion to the budget deficit.

Not possible to cut 2 trillion and have it be only bloat and bullshit.

You don't know until you look. I'm highly skeptical and highly doubtful, but I hope it happens.

They can look all they want. It's not possible. The only way to cut 2 trillion from the budget is to do serious harm to people and devastate our economy.

Hopefully they look at the pensions elected officials get. That seems like a boondoggle to me. We pay out $50M+ every year for people who were elected to sit around and do nothing now.

    That's a start. Only $1,999,950,000,000 to go.

As SOME of you understand, only Congress can create a new “department”. Plus, ditching the Chevron doctrine would seriously limit anything that they may want to do and tie it up in litigation for years. Be careful what you wish for.

Yep, US budget is ~ $6T this year. Cutting $2T would hurt a lot of people.

Exactly, that’s the point. Any regulations they write would have to be very narrowly written.

I’ll take wild conjecture for $2,000 please Alex. You have zero clue if that’s true. Still spiraling I see.
