    ONE PLAYER ESPECIALLY WAS MIA
His was one of the best feel-good stories of the beginning of the year. When safety Diwun Black worked his way through junior college and stayed wholly committed to Florida throughout a prolonged recruiting process, he became a social media hero for Gator fans. On the practice field he’s been special in terms of the ability to make plays. But that doesn’t fix the fact that he is way behind in learning the playbook. I never thought he would play early in this game because of the last reason, but I did think he would play and according to the official participation report that didn’t happen.

Coach him up and get him ready. He's a talented kid.

Really disappointed we didn’t get to see Black.

He’s a difference maker for sure.

I'm not sure I buy "not knowing the playbook" as the reason for him not playing. We had a comfortable lead against a team that wasn't going anywhere. What better opportunity than that to learn the playbook? I think something else is going on. It was reported here that he had missed team meetings. Maybe he was held out for that reason.

They're still trying to find out how to pronounce his first name. Black says they can't make him tell, he's exercising his freedom of speech. So they're waiting to hear from his mama.

Mullen: "We can't just send him out there with no name."

Well, "d" is pronounced "th" in Spanish, but not when it's the first letter of a word. Plus "Black" is not Latino.

I agree Clay. There is always a roadblock with this guy. Just doesn’t seem he is destined to p,ay here.
Reminds me of that “missing math class” our incoming recruits dealt with and they never got enrolled.

Or he was simply on the list of players held out of the first game for various but typically non critical disciplinary offenses over the Spring and Summer.

It happens every year and while someone like Spurrier would often allude to why people were out for the opener, Mullen, like lots of contemporary coaches, seems to give as little specific info as possible.

He certainly couldn't have done any worse against, say, Samford's FCS offense than the starters did.

Fair question and obviously a request for information. But the board is plagued with uninformed facepalmers.

He'll have to be if they go 3-4 as some have suggested. Need the bodies. Thin kid but tall enough to hold 230s with the right s/c program.
