I don't recall you calling into question the parental status of those who agree with you. And when parents on the board who don't agree with you give their opinions and experiences, you suggest they're being dishonest. You set these discussions up as a "tails I win, and heads you lose" situation where you personally get to cherry pick when someone has the requisite life experience to have take worth considering.

There have been conservative activists doing this just as long, they have been pretty successful too, all things considered. Things have been contested longer than you've been alive (like were you even born before the ERA was defeated?), and it certainly hasn't been the left rolling up victories like the Wehrmacht in Poland in '39.

Where does "basic sense of right and wrong" come from?

For example, to some, "basic right and wrong" encompasses traditional views of sexual morality.

Where does your "basic sense of right and wrong" come from?

    Pretend I'm your son:

"Daddy, let's say you were crowned King of the United States and could do whatever you want, how would you end school shootings?"

    How would you answer?

I can attest that @rivergator was a good youth baseball coach. Although maybe he did secretly plant liberal thoughts in my head. Hmmmm

I think a King could end mass shootings pretty easily, that's probably the only redeeming feature of absolute power, the ability to act absolutely!

My solution is to make guns trans and gay, have Smith & Weston celebrate Pride month. You guys would shut down the 2nd amendment so fast.

Assuming I was King, I wouldn’t have to worry about the catastrophically misapplied arguments to the Second Amendment that didn’t find any footing whatsoever until the NRA kicked in unprecedented funding in the 1960s. And thus the first thing I would do is execute dramatic gun reforms, beginning with bans in all assault rifles, followed by laws requiring anyone having a gun to be duly licensed based upon proficiency in the weapon and weapon safety, and a demonstrable means of establishing one was fit to own and use a weapon, including through continuous training.

If the 2nd Amendment were revoked tomorrow and the government made their best attempt to confiscate all guns from the populace and local police departments, there would still be school shootings.

If you can't end something entirely, why try to lower the likelihood of things, right?

I'd tell him that we don't have a king, but that other countries have already modeled the decisions and policies to successfully eliminate public shootings, so if I were in charge, I'd follow their playbook.

Also, I'm not sure if you realize that you're making my point for me. That's a much harder conversation to have with my son that kids keep getting shot because we have a complicated government where the people responsible for making laws have been bought by the NRA and gun lobby to prevent any legislation that slows the absurd sales rate of firearms in this country.

    Contrast that with:

"Daddy, why was that man wearing a dress at the Disney store?"

"Well son, I guess it's because he wanted to wear a dress."

Why put a man in a princess dress in the first place? He looks ridiculous, and a terrible advertisement for the costumes in the store.

I don't think he's a pedophile, or warped, or a danger to children. Maybe trans, or gay. Everybody on this thread that is a parent is a good parent, and it's low and mean-spirited to suggest otherwise.

Since we are we we are doing nothing but guessing, I disagree. And I’m guessing that the frequency of gun shootings would certainly decrease exponentially.

That's such a weak and BS argument. "Well, things won't get better immediately, so we should do nothing about it now."

Indeed, but gun ownership would not be a right, so it would be much easier to control who gets to have them and take them away from people who may not break a law but act irresponsibly or threateningly. Not to mention, the gun industry would collapse when they can become liable in the same ways other manufacturers are.
