That's the weird part here. The judge dismissed the case because DeSantis wasn't fighting against "woke" when he got the legislature to take away the special district. If DeSantis had done it because he was fighting against "woke", it would have been unconstitutional. You disagree with the judge who says DeSantis isn't fighting against "woke"?
No. The judge dismissed the case because Disney could not demonstrate their claim that DeSantis was retaliating against them over their criticism of his changes to school curriculum. DeSantis cannot be guilty of retaliation for simply filling a void the Florida legislature left him with. In other words, DeSantis didn’t do anything to Disney in the first place. Disney likely has no case against the state legislature (not even sure you can sue the state legislature), because Disney was receiving preferential treatment as it was and they had a “duty” to clean it up. I will remind you Governor DeSantis graduated from Harvard Law with honors and was a federal prosecutor. He probably laughed his ass off when he read the lawsuit.
The simplest way I can restate my thesis is this: IF the action to take over Reedy Creek special district was motivated by fighting Disney’s ideology, it violates the first amendment. Full stop. This is the second time you’ve labeled me as “butthurt”. Apart from the insulting nature of the label, it conveys a lack of curiosity. Instead of assuming you know all about my motivations, you could have simply asked, “Rade, what’s your interest in this case?” If you had, I would have responded that I come at this from the tradition of the classical liberal, such as James Madison, FA Hayek, or Charles Sanders Peirce. In this tradition, the state must be vested with powers to protect personal liberty, but it must never be vested with the power to limit discourse, as free discourse is essential for discovery of truth.
You continue making a case for something that is not there. Hence, you're obviously butthurt. I don't need to be curious about your interest in this case. There is no case to be heard. It's been thrown out. DeSantis hasn't suppressed Disney's free speech.
If in the future you become interested in having an actual exchange, hit me up. Till then, have a good one, Okee.
Saw earnings report for Disney! Those of us holding shares are thrilled. The idiots who connected disneys support of the right of individuals to live as they wish as anti business were wrong. Maybe after getting his a$$ kicked across the board desantis will focus on supporting business/jobs and limiting government involvement in our lives, including social issues.
Down 44% from its high March 12, 2021 where it blew up. That said DIS has not been a bust either. This is probably what is behind the recent bump. Not going to be good for the sports fan imo. We will be paying more eventually... Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery & Fox Combine To Offer Streaming Sports
Hmmmm… Did you buy at the peak… bro. That is a you issue. I’m up. Disney faced covid impact on its “in person” business, a total new industry in cable/streaming, and the tables going upside down with ESPN/sports. The political idiocy was that their downfall was portrayed as being due to being “woke.” The answer is that these are business issues and for us shareholders, hopefully are being dealt with. But if you want to layer financial analysis under political bias, have at it… bro.
$1 I would buy. But if I were going to play on Disney right now. It would be a quick Put Option. That said. They are probably a fair value for the bored investor…
And this is also behind their drop — people are weening off cable AND they stopped going to the movies. That hurts a cable-movie dominated company.
Seems like it's a lot like NIL. Pay for Play is against the rules but go ahead and try to prove it. Desantis likely did it for Disney's position on his bill but go ahead, try to prove that.
Darwin Award winner in finance! Some folks hug trees, some hug right wing Donald root. As I told my kids - thank goodness most people are not rational. If they were, the competition would be so much tougher.
I wouldn't buy DIS out of principle. Even if I thought it was going to rise in value, there are tons of tickers that fit that bill. But, overall, as a company, they do suck. I mean, they spent a pretty penny to file a lawsuit against a governor that ends up getting tossed by the judge. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence as an investor.
