Fighting for one’s personal beliefs via speeches, boycotts, or developing competing entities, is indeed a respectable democratic action. However, once one employs government force to install their personal beliefs, the result is instead oppression.
Not true at all. We’ve always had certain standards and ethics that are based on personal beliefs and values.
Standards sure, laws no. Let’s say DeSantis loves cheeseburgers. Could he pass a law punishing restaurants for not serving cheeseburgers? Of course not.
Yeah, I think you’re on a different planet, bud. Many laws are based on traditions, beliefs and values. Judeo-Christian values as we would call them. A company who uses movies marketed to young children to promote gender ideology is sick indeed. Not lost on me one bit Disney has been guilty in the past for putting clandestine sexual imagery in their movies. Lock ‘em up, Ron.
Have you actually watched the movie? Cause you're saying a magical star that comes and grants wishes should have a gender. I firmly believe you've never watched a second of this movie. I'd bet my life on it.
I’ve only watched the trailer, true. I wouldn’t give these jackals actual money. Also true: Disney always genders these types of characters. Disney refers to Star with it/its. Star’s voice is a queer in real life. It also wouldn’t be the first time. But go on… Disney doesn’t promote LGBTQ+ ideology, amirite? Is that what you’re trying to say here or are you only disputing the notion that Star is a non-binary character? Maybe you’ll need to wait for the next 3 or 4 Disney films to feature transgenders to pick up on the fact Disney is pushing this agenda.
I remember when right-wingers were saying that Disney should not get special privileges and should be treated like everyone else. Universal received a special district for Epic Universe and it's been crickets from the right wing
If you need living, breathing proof that grooming exists en masse in the queer community, look no further than Disney.
When Disney speaks out against one of DeSantis’ projects or puts a gender neutral star in a film, what law are they breaking?
Do not disagree. But, how do we respond to rules and regulations that require one person to refer to another person only with the “personal pronoun” that second person chooses …. and can change whenever they feel a need to do? I recently had an acquaintance that was called on the carpet because they referred to a person who now identifies as a woman but was a man for many years …. as “they “ instead of “she”. Funny me, I thought “they” was fine as it was gender neutral.
The workplace and school “regulations” on pronouns seem stupid on the surface, but I can also see scenarios where the intentional misgendering is harassment. Consider if at work a person is told the gender but keeps intentionally misgendering a co-worker. Essentially no different from any other type of sexual harassment in my view, like if a male kept calling a woman an inappropriate nickname after being told to stop. At some point if they keep doing it, it can only be harassment. I see it as valid thing to have in harassment type scenarios, but the bar should be willful intent to harass (shown by an ongoing effort to misgender), not a person slipping up and using a wrong pronoun. It really doesn’t seem that difficult to differentiate if a person is just neutral about it. Although I’m sure some would get overly offended and consider it harassment on the 1st offense, and there are those who think it’s their “right” to sexually harass people should be protected ad infinitum. A dispassionate or neutral party would look at the facts and come down somewhere in the middle.
I think there are certainly going to be some misfires in the rules that are created to regulate any norm, but I still think the framework of “rules sure, laws no” is the best of our imperfect options. If GC wanted to install an overly complicated rule that ended up punishing several well meaning posters, it would not be ideal, we posters could always choose to frequent another community. As terrible as such a GC rule might end up being, I think passing a law banning the creation of terrible rules would have much more terrible effects than the rules themselves.
Universal’s special district was created by the Orange County Commission, which is one of, if not the, most liberal large local governments in the state. There’s not a heck of a lot the state government can directly do to stop that. Disney’s, by contrast, was created by direct act of the Legislature, which made it a lot easier to modify.
