DeSantis moves to disqualify Mark Walker. Don’t think it will work legally, although my views on the Eleventh Circuit are well known

Walker, who was nominated to the federal bench in 2012 by then-President Barack Obama and is now chief judge of the district, tossed out that lawsuit on the grounds that the professors didn’t have standing to challenge the law championed by DeSantis and Florida lawmakers.

In the first case, Walker said, “What’s in the record, for example — is there anything in the record that says we are now going to take away Disney’s special status because they’re woke?”

In the second case, the judge said, “And then Disney is going to lose its status because — arguably, because they made a statement that run afoul — ran afoul of state policy of the controlling party,” according to the DeSantis motion.

Disney and DeSantis have been engaged in a tug of war for more than a year that has engulfed the GOP governor in criticism as he prepares to launch an expected presidential bid this week.

My SIL works at DLA Piper and is a FedSoc member. She seems to think that barring some undiscovered legal doctrine, Desantis is going to lose and lose hard. It is an underlying reason a lot of big donors have kept some distance. When he loses, it will crumble his campaign nationally.

Winning or losing is not the motive for DeSantis. It’s just the fact that he will fight his silly War on Woke that makes him so popular with a certain crowd.

And Disney has now indicated that the next $17B in investments and 13k jobs are at risk due to DeS and his culture war

Disney World Makes Its Boldest Anti-DeSantis Threats Yet (msn.com)

"I remain optimistic about the direction of our Walt Disney World business. We have plans to invest $17 billion and create 13,000 jobs over the next ten years. I hope we’re able to do so...," he said, according to BlogMickey.

That remark was followed by a much stronger statement from Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle:

Regarding our world-class destination, our desire is to continue investing in our core business in an effort to attract and welcome millions of visitors to Walt Disney World and Central Florida each year so they can enjoy the kind of hospitality our region is known for around the world. Our plans currently call for us to invest $17 billion in Walt Disney World over the next 10 years and create 13,000 new jobs to continue doing our part as a leading employer in the hospitality and themed entertainment industry. We hope those plans will become a future reality.

Iger, D'Amaro, and Vahle are making it clear that Disney has other options for its billions of dollars in investment. They're trying to calmly show DeSantis that his political retaliation over the company objecting to his legislative agenda has consequences.

Yep. I don’t think Disney is messaging to DeSantis anymore. They are messaging directly to the other elected officials and representatives that if they keep supporting this absurdity, they will need to explain it to their constituents, who are not likely to be too pleased with the loss of jobs, investment, revenue and infrastructure.

Anecdotal...but my hard red friends are sick of it and think it is hurting him nationally. Again, anecdotal but I have seen Rubio, Scott and other Republicans say the same thing.

A bit about some issue that may impact the way the Florida Supreme Court will view this dispute if it gets there:

Sasso replaces Justice Ricky Polston, who resigned on March 31 and was later named as General Counsel for Citizens Property Insurance Corp., a state-backed property insurer.

Sasso’s husband, Michael, is a Winter Park lawyer who was appointed by DeSantis to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board. The board is at the center of DeSantis’ battle with The Walt Disney Co. over the use of the land surrounding its theme parks in Central Florida.

Judge Mark Walker recuses himself, not on grounds DeSantis asserted, but due to family stock ownership

Well, we know who didn't go to Clarence Thomas for ethics advice lol. Winsor is not a good pull, but if he rules against DeSantis, that would be damning for Big Gov Ron.

That’s who DeSantis was hoping for; he’s a conservative appointed by Trump.
