Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state’s governor.

Citing “changing business conditions” and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

“This was not an easy decision to make, but I believe it is the right one,” D’Amaro told employees.

So if Desantis' end game is to drive Drive Disney out of Florida, then what? Are there other things he wants to use that land for?

Not a chance. Their theme park sector is killing it and these were Imagineers for theme parks being moved and a huge new headquarter being built and invested in the state for the future, not short term.

This isn't their streaming sector where the layoffs are happening. Btw, no resort/theme park cast members are being laid off because it is doing so strongly.

Corporations layoff people all the time, to right size and realign the business focus. They often to it to free up capital for R&D and expansion very often they do it concurrently. Disney has an announced 17B capital investment budget. I don’t see them backing away from that, they certainly didn’t in their latest report. That money and those jobs and taxes are going to a blue state.

    Thanks for playing though..

So if I understand how this works, whenever anyone moves to Florida its 100% because of government policy, but when someone decides to cancel a move to Florida, its for other reasons.

Either nothing happens, Disney stops trying to override the will of the people in Florida as a guest in the state, or Disney leaves and other corporations (it doesn't have to be one) take its place.

I would say I mentioned each of these possibilities in the order of which they are most likely to occur. And everyone including Disney and the state of Florida will be fine in each of these outcomes.

Yes. Elections have consequences. They tried to throw their weight at the Florida government to affect policy that really doesn't have to do with their business.

Traditionally, businesses have been able to bank on the Republican Party having this free market spirit so they won't have to deal with crap if they do something Republicans don't like. The same cannot be said for Democrats.

They will not be able to rely on that any longer. The gloves are off.

So, free speech is fine as long as it conforms with the majority.

They're closing it down because it's price too high for the vast majority of Disney visitors.
Although just a guess, Disney will probably repackage it in a more affordable form.
