Few things with that diagram. If I’m reading it correctly it looks like the majority of the SEC plays Man and cover 2. Sprinkle in some Cover 3’s I guess. But mainly Man and cover 2.

Having 4 WRs is great if you have a line that can block. We did ok with blocking but now you want to take out a TE and RB to add 2 WRs…..I wonder if the defense will adjust to that in any way? All the speed in the world doesn’t matter if the defense is getting past your OLine before the WR runs by the DB. Where were all of DJs interceptions last year? On long balls or when he felt rushed and short to medium throws?

The thing you and Whammy are forgetting is Football is a game of angles therefore speed is not the say all be all. A safety that runs 4.8 can run down a WR that runs a 4.3 if he’s in the right position. Speed doesn’t matter in the Redzone, bigger bodied people that can win 50/50 balls in the end one. Every play is not a deep bomb so a WR like Dike is not running a 40 every play, he’s running 5-10 yards and then making a cut which means at some point he is slowing down to make that cut which allows others to possible catch up or stay right there with him.

MOST importantly our offense is not built around the passing game (maybe that changes now that DJ is here, but we are definitely a running team.

so to as the original post, yes, I think we utilized the speed when we needed to and when we could. The speed didn’t matter when Mertz was in there or when the 3rd sting QB were in there which were our only losses.

Then theres Rice who leas for over a decade straight and is alltime goat. Fast slways helps but theres a lot more to it. We have fast teceivers. Do we have great receivers? If DJ is legit, we will find out.

I would take our #4 WR vs any SEC #4 DB, that's all I'm saying, but BN literally never does it. Even better vs S or LB. You are free to disagree.

I'm glad someone else said it first. Shane's opinion is just that, an opinion.

Well again, you are hoping that a safety or LB winds up covering them. The offense has no way to make sure a defense switches who is guarding who

Shane’s my dude for his “ on-field play”, but I’ve never treated his opinion as “ the bottom line”.

He’s had several strong opinions that I just didn’t agree with, which in fine and just the business of broadcasting.
