Kids go sec-sec during every portal window. You’re saying every single one of them is getting a release? Nobody has challenged or tried to enforce this yet?
Not in the spring which is when he would need to....portal is closed now Skylar Wallace had to sit a year cause bama wouldn't release.
Different sport and before the there were no restrictions on transfers. I haven’t seen one since her in any sport. She also wasn’t forced to sit out because of the window she chose. At that time any sec-sec transfers had to sit out unless the previous school released them, no matter when they transferred. Kids go sec-sec during the spring window and I have not seen any forced to sit out.
Our injury report leaves something to be desired no doubt , but theres zero on him being injured. Thats the only thing that makes any sense though.
I think it would be wise to make a rule that limits a player from transferring more than once per calendar year.
You should have to sit out a year if you want to transfer in-conference. That would cut down on the tampering. if you feel like you need a fresh start, that's fine. Just can't be to an SEC school.
I'm sure the schools would like to make all kind of rules if they could get it to pass through the courts
It's should be a sliding scale. You can't put onerous limitations on players but it seems like you should be able to make some rules.
I don't recall much SEC to SEC in the spring at all....and my understanding remains that a release is needed to play in the fall. It could certainly be challenged in today's environment, but to my knowledge hasn't happened
If Purdie doesn't want to be here, give him a full release and move on. There is no need to have a player taking up time and space who doesn't want to be a Gator. Gator Bait!
That would mean they updated the rule, because it was in place before we had transfer windows, and I have not seen it come up since the windows were a thing or seen anything about an update where they only enforce it in the spring window. Skylar moved after the 2020 season. The windows weren't a thing until 2022, and shortly after that is when the NCAA got sued again over transfer restrictions. Spring sports still have to sit if they move during the winter window no matter where they go, unless they're grads, but I'm pretty sure the sec-sec rule is a thing of the past. I found about a half dozen sec-sec spring window transfers and don't see anything about any enforcement of that old rule with any of them. There is less movement in general in the Spring window, but sec-sec definitely still happens. We also call Murphy a petty prick for doing that to Skylar.
Poor precedent to set, encourages tampering and guys reneging on a deal after it's too late to get a viable backup plan. He can leave in the spring and go where he wants, but UF doesn't have to pave the road AND clear a path that we would have to possibly face him next fall. He's screwing us once, I'm not for letting him do it twice
I didn't call Murphy that, and I wouldn't call Walton that over Kowaleski. Half dozen isn't many, and I'm betting they are guys that tried to graduate in spring or were clearly not a factor for the coming season and it was best for both parties....thus no issue in the release. This case is completely different, and if the release is in play I would use it. And I've been told it is in play. How UF proceeds I don't know, I can see it both ways. But clearly Kirby is trying to screw UF, if UF had a non release option it would completely ruin the entire reason for Kirby bringing him in (other than hurting UF)....he has a roster spot and NIL funds tied up in a player he can't use. That would be justice. And I don't feel sorry for a kid who screws us over...he will still get paid his money and won't lose a year, just use a redshirt
I think if they’re getting paid, they should be bound by the terms of the agreement. I used to be someone that thought it was grossly unfair to force a kid to stay in a school where his opportunities hit a road block, but his coach could jump and leave any time, albeit with a negotiated fee/costs. Why shouldn’t the same rules apply to the paid athlete?!
I don't think Walton is blocking Kowalewski, the NCAA rules are. Spring sport undergrads moving during the winter window still have to sit. It's tedious to research, half dozen is just where I stopped. I don't see anywhere this rule has been enforced since the transfer windows became a thing. If it's available, I have no issue enforcing it. We can be the reason for the first lawsuit to get the rule abolished, yay.
Not a bad idea, but at present NIL isn't technically paid by the school so there is nothing to buy out. Perhaps down the road there can be a tie in to the amount the player is receiving from their current school
The transfer rule - which is SEC only rule and not the same in other conferences- if you transfer in the spring portal from a sec school to a sec school you must sit out a year. If you transfer in winter portal you don’t. you can transfer OUT of the sec in the spring portal and not sit out. Sec did this to prevent conference schools from poaching each other after spring practice. Though it also hurts the sec overall as it forces talent out of the conference.
Correct on AK, just making the point that I don't mind a coach enforcing certain rules. And a spring sport athlete moving in the winter isn't really all that different from a fall sport athlete moving during the spring/summer when you view it from the competiitve calendar standpoint
