You said this stuff isn’t being offered to children. Children are people who have not reached the age of majority. Too Hot characterized a picture from Gender Queer as pornography. If all of the above is accurate, and the Too Hot characterization is correct, that means that pornography was supplied to children by public school libraries, rendering your statement false. And Too Hot isn’t alone, by the way. Instagram also treated the same pages as pornography. Twitter flags it as "sensitive content." It’s amazing how when push comes to shove the only place it seems to not be considered pornography is in libraries and public schools.
I'm the Mod who labeled the picture pornographic and deleted it when I found it on the thread early this morning. There was no question in my mind a comic book like series of graphic depictions including one male youth / teenager kneeling and fellating another could not possibly be considered anything but pornographic. And a clear violation of a rule in this thread pinned to the top of the Too Hot forum. Rules 1/17/2023 | Swamp Gas Forums As it was very early I did not consult with any other moderator before deleting, but later in the morning a mod senior to me indicated he was in agreement with my decision to remove the image. Gator715 and I discussed the situation by PM and I suggested any post with a link to another site containing this type of imagery should also contain a warning indicating it included graphic pornographic / offensive imagerey. That would be the only way to bring the material published in a book like Gender Queer into the discussion. Directly copying and posting any imagery of this type will not be tolerated on Gator Country.
Of course. But the accountability for librarians should not be up to some freak moms for liberty lady who wants to control what everyone else's kids read.
dude…this is the point I have been making. Without context/qualifiers saying Florida bans books or Miami bans smoking is just straight up dishonest.
you concede defeat in this argument. You concede the state should ban certain material in schools to shelter children. That was the question. now the debate is moved to who gets to make the decision and what is the standard.
no such thing in the United States. Law schools have to be accredited in order to sit for the bar exam. nice insult on me. Let’s see if the mods are consistent and remove your insult.
Pornography has no place in schools. School boards for a decades have had a common sense approach to content that does not allow pornography but does allow literature. Never have school boards moderated content with a right wing ideology meter. These book ban nuts are getting voted out on their threesome woman beating asses board by board around the country. Useless, the lot of them.
Common sense? We can't even agree here on whether Gender Queer is pornography, let alone recommended reading for minors. Lacuna thinks it's "clearly pornography." The American Library Association thinks it's a great book for kids aged 12 to 18.
Well at least you seem to know more about what it takes to become a lawyer than what it takes to become a librarian. My mother was a school librarian. She took real classes at USF to get her masters degree for it. It was a requirement. As for insults, if you don't like them then you should stop using them.
I think it's much ado about almost nothing, like it always has been. It's just a bunch of fearful right-wing busy bodies trying to control everyone else. When I was in school they were trying to ban Catcher in the Rye, amongst other classics of American literature. I guess kinda have to thank them for that because it's the reason I read Catcher in the Rye in 10th grade.
Amazing, you didn't answer the question as to who should hold them accountable and how. Color me not surprised.
To be completely honest, I don't mind removing the posts at all. What I care deeply about is rhetoric and narrative from the left telling me one thing while their actions are telling me another entirely. And who pays the price? The next generation. A lot of folks need to do a lot of soul searching and consider if it's more important to preach left-wing platitudes and look good to your internet buddies or your cocktail buddies than it is to be truthful and righteous. A lot of people are so scared to be branded homophobic and a book-banner, that they refuse to condemn what they deem to be pornography both supplied to and recommended to minors by government institutions.
If you say so, but I’m fairly certain everyone actually understands we are taking about libraries here despite not repeating the phrase banning books from libraries and from schools over and over again.
It's the application of the ban. There is a significant difference in scope between banning a library from stocking a book and banning a person from reading a book.
That's a common leftist trick. Use semantically overloaded and prejudicial language to paint a distorted picture of the issue or the action.
