The guy is a fascist loser and a poor man’s Donald Trump, but Republicans have developed a recent reputation for supporting fascist losers and Trump wannabes, so them defending and fawning over him (while being hypocrites about his strong-armed ruling tactics) is par for the course.
Osceola County will get what it voted for. A a governor that punishes free speech cryptically of him by taking property rights from owners of same. At great expense to the taxpayers of the County. And the rest of use in the state get another boondoggle, and doomed, lawsuit. DeSantis’ intimidation is pervasive. Fear in the legislature to challenge him over maps that disenfranchise African America representation. Fear at UF of disagreements with his Coronavirus policies and remitting his Surgeon General. Taking money from school districts over his mask mandate. Signing laws that violate the VRA. And he is wildly popular. Like Trump. But, he is not a strongman. He gets his power from his supporters. The same ones who hide in the woodwork when Trump’s false election claims are brought up. People don’t want democracy and choice. Fine with them of people who aren’t like them or don’t think like them are disenfranchised. They want leadership that reflects what they cherish most— over the freedom of everyone to choose, law and the constitution. Can’t arrest them like Putin does, so find ways to sanction them. To great acclaim from the believers.
Kind of like the way Disney was damaged when the Southern Baptist Convention supported a boycott of the company back in the '90s.
Corporations have First Amendment rights. They literally have the right to try and dictate state policy, just like you do. And the Republican politicians you'll vote to reelect have almost certainly been happy to take money from those corporations, including DeSantis.
And boycott ABC…and ESPN…and Pixar…and Lucasfilm…and 20th Century Fox…and Touchstone…and Searchlight…and National Geographic…and…
I boycott Disney because it is too expensive and I hate waiting in line. I took my girls once thirty years ago so I couldn't be charged with child abuse. I have paid my debt to popular culture. They also ruined Star Wars. I can't blame Ron for scoring points. When the ChiComs told Disney, “Don’t say gay" (About Dumbledore) they caved in a heartbeat. Why not score cheap political points when your opponent is craven? Disney is not the only fortune five hundred company in Florida. I haven't noticed any others joining their fight. They also haven't said anything after their initial posturing. I infer from those facts that their interference in Florida politics did not play well with the general public.
You would think the prudent way to run your business isn't to piss off half of your potential customers. ¯¯\_㋡_/¯
Meanwhile in MAGAland… GOP strategist and donor appears for child sex trafficking case with new defense team
The easy explanation is that they're not angering half of their potential customers. They're only angering a relatively small group of homophobic DeSantis fans.
Wasn't there a couple of polls that showed a.majority of Floridians approved.of.the bill? Including a majority of democrats? Are they all homophobic? Disney has several issues coming up. Not only will Florida loom to resolve some of the very special and unique privileges granted to Dis eh World, they also have a copyright issue coming up where their copyrighted material has been extended multiple times past their original sunset.
I dont know, but depending on how you word any polling, you could come up with a variety of answers that arent particularly useful. I'm sure not teaching sex to 3rd graders polls pretty well, for example. I'm sure a poll that says teachers cant mention their spouse in class on pain of lawsuit doesnt poll well. So what can you conclude?
The polling is all over the place. But you're making the mistake of assuming that because people support the bill that they would be angry enough over Disney's opposition to boycott it. Do you think that's realistic? Or do you think it's more likely that most people don't care enough about the bill to refuse to do business with Disney? As for polling: DocumentCloud 40% of Floridians support 49% of Floridians oppose 37% of Americans support 62% of Americans oppose Slim Majorities of Voters Support Core Provisions of Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill Clear majority support among Americans for prohibitions on teaching (51% and 52%), but plurality opposition for lawsuit enforcement provision 36% of FL Democrats support teaching sexual orientation in K-3 52% oppose I imagine it's the last poll I mentioned that you heard about. But the polling is all over the map. The polling of Florida Democrats doesn't actually describe the law accurately. I oppose this law, yet I would have selected oppose for that particular polling question. What's clear is that the law's enforcement mechanism (suing teachers) is unpopular. And I expect if people were educated on what this law actually does, the majority would oppose it. With anything else, it all depends on how you frame the question/debate.
Seriously? I’m homophobic for asking the above question? Does anyone and everyone who disagrees with your beliefs get labeled?
Ahhh So labeling based on the thinnest of evidence without any knowledge of the person, reasons for agreeing or disagreeing with the bill. In fact all you really know is they differ from YOU and that’s enough to label them with a derogatory label. Do you do the same thing with skin color? Religion? Socioeconomics? Or maybe just maybe many people agree with the law based upon rational thought despite their political views, religion or anything else.
