I don’t care how people work around sanctions for purposes of this conversation because the State of Florida can’t impose “sanctions” in the foreign affairs sense of the word in the first place.

I am, however, perfectly fine with the State of Florida not paying money to, or investing its own money into, companies that do business with Iran. If that means we can’t sign state contracts with some European companies, I won’t shed any tears over that fact.

Yep, DeSantis is definitely onto something. These crushing sanctions will finally bring Iran to it's knees and crawling to the bargaining table, something US, EU and UN sanctions have failed to do.

Comical that educated people are taking this grandstanding fluff seriously.

I was not aware that governments should avoid doing anything whatsoever unless it will, in and of itself, solve the problem.

Florida already has state laws prohibiting the state from doing business with companies that have business operations in North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Sudan, and some sectors of the Iranian economy. It’s had most of those for quite a while.

No one is claiming that Florida is solving any of those global crises, or that this will solve this one. But the fact that Florida can’t single handedly solve the crisis, however, doesn’t mean that the State shouldn’t exercise the limited power it does have.

The board is upset this is happening for exactly one reason: because the EOG press office put out a press release asking the legislature to do it.

This is so maddening. This is real. This conflict risks metastasizing; people are dying and more will. And DeSantis and his Hillsdale level mini-minds are actually trying to inject themselves into international policy. This isn’t picking on drag shows and sending out racist dog whistles. It’s serious stuff, not for stupid morally small people.

All kinds of officials are grandstanding. Gavin Newsom did some stuff. I hope this is just grandstanding. But to brag that people with the mental and moral smallness of DeSantis types might really have an impact when the world is on edge, tinkering with what they don’t remotely understand, is grotesque.

I like the way DeSantis brought his state out of Covid imprisonment. Sadly, he’s a warmonger like the rest.

I'd make a joke about them prioritizing solving the real problems that Floridians face, but if I'm being honest, these clowns have no ability to solve actual problems. If they are wasting their time doing stupid stuff like this to score political points, at least they aren't spending their time passing unconstitutional laws aimed at attacking free speech rights, democratic rights, or harming the LGBTQ+ community.

When are they going to call for a special session to attack the real problems that we have? I wouldn't be surprised if they call another special session on furries and gas stoves
