They would also be required to put up a $1 million bond with the Division of Elections, and affirm the people gathering petitions on their behalf are U.S. citizens who haven’t been convicted of certain election-related felonies. If they hire someone who isn’t a citizen or who has been convicted of such a felony, a $50,000 fine could be assessed. Petition gatherers would have to undergo background checks before being registered with the state and have mandatory training. Petition forms would require a person signing the measure give their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. Other restrictions include requirements that all petition gatherers be Florida residents, and petitions must be delivered to local supervisors of elections within 10 days, down from the 30 days in current law. A $50 fine for each day a petition is late, up to $2,500 could be assessed. Current law is a $50 flat fine for each late petition. Petition restrictions could end citizen-led amendments in Florida This is just asking for petitions only by big money interests. Individual citizens don't stand a chance with restrictions like this. Also, there would likely be no $15 minimum wage and no maximum class size in public schools
I wonder if DeeeSantis understands this goes for republicans as well? My guess is he wants to make sure only the legislature can amend the constitution.
I know they hate the process and democracy, but they already knee capped it twice, once with legislation on petition gathers and second with the 60% threshold. Like, legal weed and abortion couldnt even get over the line. Arent they just kicking a corpse at this point?
