I am not sure I agree with that. I got a degree in Broadcast journalism. Since I had to worked my way thru college running restaurants I went off and on for 13 years. The Lord blessed me with a very deep voice and the ability to deliver it in a manner in which not a lot can do. I wanted to do TV News, but by the time I finished I was bald headed. Even today you see very few bald men doing local news, back then no one was hiring a bald man to deliver the news. I did a lot of voice work and Public Speaking starting in the early 1970's, and was doing very well financially, way before I finished my degree( the only reason I even finished it was for my Mother).

I have yet to see anyone from the right in politics bash someone who has no Faith. I am sure if you dig hard enough you might find it, but it is rare. What is not rare is the lib left's outright hatred for anyone who has a strong Faith.

People without faith are often ships without a rudder.
And these folks are also quite often libbies.
These people often don’t care about doing what’s right…they just want to be right.

"Improve outcomes for humanity." By what standard do you measure improvement for humanity? And by what standard did you determine that growth is a problem for humanity? Both of those statements seem very subjective and embedded with unfounded philosophical assumptions about humanity that don't seem true on their face in my opinion, but I am willing to let you unpack them.

I don't buy it. I think it's pure political opportunism. DeSantis thought he could make a play to them and convince them that he (correctly) was a better choice for what they "say" they want, but wasn't able to because MAGA = MORON.

That said, he's been pretty quiet lately. I'm wondering what his game is. Has made a point NOT to go all in with MAGA, which in itself is very interesting. NOT going to appoint Plastic Surgery Face (Lara Trump) to Senator. . . . Definitely seems to want that for himself and to see Moody replace him as Governor. DeSantis will be a very interesting character to watch over the next 2-4 years.

Again. Don't buy it. I think DeSantis is a Yale/Harvard, Naval JAG Corps Republican (exactly why the MAGA Morons didn't vote for him). Basically a Bush trying to fake it as MAGA to get their votes.

Oh well, "growth" is over. . . So, probably time to start dealing with that fact rather than pining for the 19th Century.

Obviously not seeing as how the R's have used religion as a political tool since the late 70s. What a pointless statement. "I've never seen anyone from the left bash someone for caring about the environment." That's basically what you just said. Oh, what a surprise. It's only been a major political position of the party for 60 years.

There are plenty of effed up people raised by a family with one stay at home and one working parent. That system is not a magical panacea for society. Why would we sacrifice women's social mobility on a maybe? Just pay people enough and I'm sure many would be happy to stay at home - without being forced, or discouraged from education. And actually, people could STILL get educated before becoming stay at home moms or dads. The two are not mutually exclusive. People don't need to be having babies at 18...

But you DO need to have them before 30 or the odds of having one (biologically and otherwise) are cut in half. Maybe flexible work schedules and/or work at home could allow someone to raise children AND be a productive worker who delivers the Corporate Holy Grail of Investor Profits.

Nah. Easier to just keep squeezing the society until it breaks.

I don't think the true believers want that. Betty Friedan was that and ended up writing the Feminine Mystique kicking off 2nd wave feminism. Its the educated women that are the problem for them, or essentially anyone that can think for themselves.

Improved outcomes for humanity would include things such as improved access to food, health, clean water, clean air, and safe housing. Which is honestly easier with less people, not more. It's also easier to improve outcomes with each of these things with more educated people. More education leads to better agricultural practices, safer air and water, more access to medical professionals, and more research to further our knowledge in all of these areas. Our advances in wheat production - which has been credited with saving A BILLION lives, is a perfect example - Norman Borlaug: A Billion Lives Saved

Without further advances in agricultural, energy, health, and environmental research, we probably can't even continue to sustain the population we have now. Some estimates suggest we will run out of space for solid waste in about 20 years - We’re Running Out of Space in Landfills - Newtech Recycling - so I guess we will need some educated people to make advances there as well.

Do you get what I'm putting down here? The idea that having more babies, especially uneducated babies, will solve our complex problems is not just silly, it's dangerous for our survival. The theory of evolution isn't reproduce as fast as you can, it's about evolving to your environment. If humans do not evolve to our current conditions, we will die out. Now i suppose we can argue what that evolution looks like, and if you think that evolution means having MORE uneducated babies, by all means, please lay out your logic for how that will save the species long term and is somehow better than keeping the babies we do have educated.

Well, I will put aside for now whether DeSantis (or Trump, or others) are genuinely sincere about their claimed faith or are just pandering. But DeSantis has, in fact, spent a lot of time, energy, and political capital on social issues.

Trump criticized the Florida abortion law for going too far. Trump said he supported the marijuana legalization bill in Florida, and yet we saw DeSantis traveling around the state to defeat it. DeSantis accused Trump of taking Disney's side in their fight over LGBT issues. Perhaps DeSantis is faking it, but he speaks about faith often and spends a lot of time fighting about things that are important to the religious right. Trump literally started calling him "Ron DeSanctimonious."

Tactically, it was a stupid move to come at Trump from the right, but that was the angle he chose. Sycophants aren't switching cults of personality on a whim, and they were always going with the cult leader on this. We can agree to disagree then. I think it's just pandering, but pandering to a group he'll need to win POTUS. This is why I hate MAGA more than Trump. They actually believe his shit.

I call bullshit. Now, I slam people of faith all the time, but I am a conservative. It seems whenever the left on too hot slams someone of faith, the "cons", including you, say they are not true people of faith. So, it seems you & the left are in agreement here (shocker!). It is the slamming of a shithead who claims to be faithful.

It really has nothing to do with a person's faith at all, you can just contrast people like Phil/Tilly vs. the person who's thread you linked. All the clowns who use their faith as a cudgel against the things they dislike are the ones that get the most ire, then they want to claim its because they are believers not because they spew some of the most ugly hate and bigotry I've seen.
