That season Arkie's rushing defense was ranked 76th in the nation and UF's was 81st. Arkie's pass defense was ranked 32nd but UF's was 70th. Even more, UF had 3 picks on the season and Arkansas had 12. No matter how you slice it the guy did a good job with what he had in 2023, no matter how bad the rushing defense was
kind of like Charlie Strong. Tebow won the Heisman because we we had such a bad D, we had to out score everyone. Strong did great with the personnel, not so much when not.
LOL, I want to apologize. Having a rough day and took it out on you. Sorry for the rude communication.
Well he was at Arkansas for two years but you chose to list stats from one year. I know you just wanted to show how wrong others are when they do it but a cursory look at his Arkansas record shows he might be a decent hire. Yeah, kind of like Will Harris.
I “chose” the years they both coached at the same time and used the statistics that others used to disparage Harris. It was Raymond in 2023. Think most people could understand that aspect of it. I also never said it was a bad hire.
On a message board stats seem a good way to make a case on subjects that are typical message board fodder. If they are misleading it seems reasonable to point that out. I did read your presentation of them was meant to point out how dumb other posters are and then you said you didn't care if the new coach was good or not. Mea culpa. I'll remember your perspective from now on when I read your posts.
This is the way it works: -If a coach is currently on staff, he’s the best coach ever and under-rated. He’s on the rise and deserves more time. -If he is leaving Florida, he’s overrated and we never really needed him anyway. Anything contrary to these two rules makes you a whiner and a spreader of false rumors. Learn it, Love it, Laminate it.
The parallels of Harris and Wilson are interesting. Both could be seen as having time with their prior school where they rode momentum from prior coach's recruits and then flattened out before making the move to UF. I usually see that as coaches don't forget how to coach, but they do have a different team each year, which if is heavily influenced by the portal, the results can be mixed. There is so much player and coach movement that nobody has their hand picked corps. We have to be careful about stats we pick too. For instance, both Florida and Ark improved in lowering their yards per pass defended from '23 to '24 by about a yard, so both improved their team despite personnel issues last year (or maybe that was the decline of SEC offense last year).
Very difficult to compare defensive passing stats from different teams, as the strength of our defense last year was the Defensive line, which was much better than Arkansas, and as you know a defensive line can make a secondary look better than they are or worst than they are, and can dramatically alter the passing stats. Just ask Mahomes what he thinks about a good pass rush.
Check back March 1st when we bring out our March Madness Bruce Pearl edition deodorant stick. Supplies are limited.
I reserve judgement on the new DB coach until late November 2025. Come to think of it, on Napier as well.
Most people don't have a problem with negative communication or whiners whining it is there right, but when one is constantly whining and then crosses that line of making others wrong for being positive or optimistic, then all bets are off and one should not be surprised or shock by a rude response. This is a fact of life that will never change. Learn it, live it, love it.
As can be said for almost any coach. No one can look really good without talent. Personally, I’m more concerned that scUM can waltz in and throw enough money at our assistants to get them to leave without promo
It certainly hurts losing Harris the U! Especially after the spanking they gave us in the opener.... UF takes the shellacking: "Thank you sir, may I have another?" Miami: "Gladly, we'll take your rising coach, you're welcome!" Would have been a lot less disturbed if he had gone to team that isn't an in state rival (that we recruit against) or any team regularly on our schedule.
True but it seems his departure was coming no matter where he went. They didnt exactly pluck him from us.
I hear ya 4ever. Of course the Harris steal was just the latest salvo, in what seems to be a new intensity, between old goes. Yeah, da U got Harris but let me remind you that UF getting Ben Hanks was a bitter pill, then to follow that up with Hylton Stubbs, was a pretty big deal IMO.
