Deported a 10 Year Old US Citizen recovering from Brain Cancer

I had not read or known of this case before your post. So many cruel, absurd, insulting facets to this intolerable situation on our borders. I hope some good can come out of Jasmine Moody's "detainment" as a 'guest' of the US government. I felt a connection with her for having driven through her hometown of Whitehorse, Yukon twice in years past when we made AlCan trek 3 times in 5 years.

She and the other women detained with her did not deserve the ill-treatment they were subjected to by the US immigration service.

You know, things that go around eventually come around, and effect us or those we love or have association. Actions have reverberating consequences yet unknown. Until the system for dealing with border issues is settled fairly, and all concerned satisfied with what is decided, there will be abuses. That these holding facilities are privately run for profit is not surprising. Prisons in various places are privately run for profit, And not only that, the inmates of such institutions are counted as residents in the census determining the number of people living in a congressional district, a financial advantage for the district. It a business; some prisons are huge.

 

The DeVos family owns Bethany Christian Services, a management company engaged in running [a] for profit detention center(s) housing children separated from their parents or families. Betsy DeVos was Trump's secretary of education during his first term. Bethany Christian services charges as much as $700 a 24 hour day/night to house, feed, and care for a single child. That was during Trump's first term. Don't know what the current fee scale is now.
