Fact-checking Mike Johnson’s claim about noncitizen voting

Does he really think noncitizens can simply walk into any welfare office or DMV and sign up to vote? Or is he counting on an incredibly on an incredibly ignorant and gullible public?

Keeping in mind that the Speaker is nothing more than a high priest in the Cult of the Donald his claim is just another variation on the narrative that Trump has been promulgating since he lost the popular vote by a close to 3 million vote margin in 2016. Back then Trump's story was that illegal aliens voted in large numbers. Even though Trump actually won the election in the Electoral College where the results really counted thanks to his narcissistic personality disorder he couldn't accept the fact that he lost the popular vote and needed an excuse. Undocumented immigrants virtually never vote, they try to avoid contact with any government agencies whenever possible and by the way they're also ineligible for welfare benefits as are legal immigrants who have been in the US less than five years. Noncitizens even those with legal status do not have the right to vote in federal elections and Mike Johnson almost certainly knows that. His statement is another appeal to the low-information voters of MAGA nation.
