Democrats Will Hold Senate Control

Rick Scott challenging Mitch McConnell because he compromises with Democrats too much. Wow.

Scott listed the many reasons he was running, including that Republicans had compromised too much with Democrats in the last Congress — producing bills that President Joe Biden has counted as successes and that Democrats ran on in the 2022 election.

If I recall it wasn't Mitch who suggested that popular programs like Social Security and Medicare should be subject to regular reauthorization and potentially cuts in future benefits. Seems to me that was a much more significant albeit still somewhat minor factor than the few times Mitch agreed to compromise with the Democrats. In fact, even Republicans who voted against the legislation campaigned on bringing infrastructure projects to their states or districts funded by the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

I would also add that if I recall it was Scott who headed the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. There is a Yiddish expression for Rick Scott's position, it's called chutzpah, the common example of which is the person who murders his parents and than asks for mercy from the court because he's an orphan.

 

If Herschel wins will Manchin retain control of the Senate ?

 

Herschel will probably lose but still better Manchin than Mitch.

 

LDS Church announces support. I have not seen whether USCCB has taken a position - they are meeting now. But they have gone full far Right Wing Opus Dei so I would be pleasantly surprised, no shocked, if they did

 

I missed that the USCCB already opposed - morally shameful and embarassing as a Catholic
