Liberals are just sick. I don’t care if it’s a real child or not, the intent was to have sex with a child. Once again, liberals will defend this action.

Bill tracking in Washington - SB 5312 (2025-2026 legislative session) - FastDemocracy

The bill aims to enhance the protection of children from internet-based sexual abuse by establishing specific registration and supervision requirements for individuals convicted of offenses related to fictitious minors in net nanny operations. It recognizes the growing use of sting operations where law enforcement poses as minors to prevent potential sexual offenses. The legislation differentiates between individuals who have committed predatory offenses against real minors and those involved in sting operations, proposing that the latter group, if they have no prior history of such offenses, should face less stringent registration requirements.

So, are you against this because you want to bring back To Catch a Predator? I dont really understand why conservatives want to run back the 2000s and apparently, create crime.

What’s the difference if it’s a sting or a real kid? The real intent was to have sex with a kid. Why do these perverts need protection? For all I care, they should be given the death penalty.

This is confusing. I don’t see where democrats want to protect child predators unless you’re saying that law enforcement officers posing as teens are child predators. The bill as I read it still punishes those caught up in the sting, but lessens the punishment a bit. I’m surprised republicans would be against this since the execution of these operations can sometimes raise legal and ethical questions, particularly regarding entrapment and the methods used to gather evidence. Besides it’s almost always republicans and clergy getting caught.

Not familiar with the word "entrapment?" ... the government enticing people in to crime is literally creating crimes. Should the government be enticing people who wouldnt do anything normally to act out by facilitating things for them? All stings usually accomplish is entrapping the extremely dumb (who likely would not act without enticement and goading) and making it look like the government is doing something.

Are certain righty posters gonna lecture the OP about generalizing liberals, the way they lecture others about generalizing conservatives?

The question is— why? Who is asking for a bill to lessen the punishment? I suspect child predators are more recidivism and less desistance. The OP has a point… this isn’t something I would support.

Probably because it will be easier to convict people and have them actually serve time. Entrapment operations often result in no conviction at all, even if they can be brought to trial because its a made up crime and the state has punishments for real crimes which are often steep, so juries and judges balk. Who is asking? Probably prosecutors! You will probably get more guilty pleas from people caught up in stings if they aren't put in a position to fight for their lives as if it were a real crime.

I don’t think they disagree with you but since it can sometimes raise legal and ethical questions, particularly regarding entrapment, that there should be a graduated punishment. I’m sure there a lot of men on here who are glad they did all their stupid stuff before the internet.

Jan. 6 Rioters Argue Pardons Apply to Charges Including Murder Plot, Child Porn

A lawyer for David Daniel, a North Carolina man facing child-pornography charges, made a similar argument. Attorney William Terpening said in an interview “pretty much all” of the evidence cited by prosecutors came from a raid on Daniel’s house in connection with the Jan. 6 case.

“Anything that flowed from that case, given the pardon, should be excluded and inadmissible at trial,” said Terpening.

    Death penalty, right?

My understanding is that most states do not make distinctions between fake minors and real minors and for the states that do, any distinctions are not very significant. Practically, though, I would think factoring in the harm caused to a real victim might come into play during sentencing.

One interesting thing about these stings is how many are done on social media by private citizens without any notice to or coordination with law enforcement, and different law enforcement agencies seem to have different feelings about them. It does seem a bit unique in that I have not seen, for example, private citizens running their own undercover operations for other crimes - such as using fake drugs to catch people trying to buy illegal drugs.

Maybe more people should invite MS13 guys to their house to buy imaginary bricks of coke or fentanyl and do citizens arrests

    Good Lord I hate this
Why? Do we really think that a democrat or someone who voted for the left is ok with child predators? Seriously? Do we really think conservatives are anti law and racists because they voted for a republican or the right side of the ballot?
This is just dumb. All of it. No more debate. No more discussion. Just name calling. Just looking down on the other side. Just smear campaigns because.. you disagree with someone, and therefore they must be evil and be silenced.
