Smart move by the Dems though. They had to let Joe speak, for better or for worse, and to put him on the first night and then send him back to Washington for the rest of the week was a good decision.

Because even pre-Trump he was, as you may expect from an elected Republican from Illinois, a relatively centrist/liberal member of the Republican caucus.
