    Valid question, and a tough one. First, I never did attack the source of your OP, but it is true I would withhold judgement from it for now. Probably my preferred method for vetting stories is independent verification. If a story pops up on a small indie outlet, it might be true. If it later gets picked up by NYT, Fox News, and CBS, I give it much more credence. Maybe there are better ways, but I like seeing confirmation from various outlets with various perspectives.

    I am worried that a lot of us, me included, tend to give more credence to sources and stories when they agree with own points of view, which doesn’t seem ideal. Do you ever worry about that? Do you have a way to deal with it?

    If the OP were true, it'd be the lede story on the Fox website. I've seen no indication they've touched it at all.

    Agreed. Though I would edit slightly: If Fox News knew the OP to be true, it'd be the lede story on the Fox website.

    Mostly I’d like us to adopt a somewhat common approach for vetting facts. We often disagree not only on opinions but also facts, and that seems suboptimal.
