Dem-run cities thrown into desperation as migrant influx strains winter housing (wnd.com)

Large cities in New York, Illinois and Massachusetts have received thousands of migrants from the Southern border since 2021, when migrant crossings began to surge and Republican-led states sought to transport them to Democratic-led cities. The influx has overwhelmed the infrastructure in these cities, with officials now warning that they cannot provide housing to migrants amid cold winter temperatures and demanding federal funding to help, according to Politico.

”I think that we’re going to see some very desperate situations,” said Andrea Park of the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, to Politico.

“Residents are seeing that after all this time of promising something for us, nothing has come of it. Now you have folks who have just come to this country, and they’re being serviced,” said Alderperson Ronnie Mosley, who represents the heavily black South Side of Chicago, to Politico.

New York officials have taken to offering migrants incentives to leave the city, such as one-way plane tickets to foreign countries with warmer climates, though migrants have reportedly rejected these offers because they desire to remain in the United States.

And yet we have some liberals complaining that the border fences are too high, we need more migrants for work, what a bunch of morons. These cities and their citizens are now understanding how all they're blame for all these illegals and the headaches that come with them.
I love the last paragraph, offering to pay to fly them to other countries, liberals LOL

So you slid from the silly western journal down to ridiculous WND (formerly WorldNetDaily) which is an American far-right fake news website. It is known for promoting falsehoods and conspiracy theories including Obama was not born in the US.

Is there any reason we cannot use military bases to house migrants until their asylum hearings can be completed?

US citizens can barely get on base due to security concerns. Can't imagine they want foreigners under heavy watch there. I do like outside the box thinking though

Any way we can't house these immigrants seeking asylum south of the border till their hearings? Serious question. Why is that such a terrible option?

Where are they going to stay in Mexico? During the height of Title 42, the human rights abuses against our fellow humans were atrocious. If you care about your fellow human beings, then there needs to be better places to stay with services in Mexico if you think that is the answer. Otherwise, you are damning thousands to rape, murder, violence, and crime. We can do better.

Same with the wall. It's so "effective" at stopping people that mayors of large cities are complaining about being overrun with undocumented immigrants. How does this work? If you like seeing desperate brown people getting hurt with wall fall injuries, then the wall is for you. But again, if you care about your fellow humans, we can and must do better.

We've tried a wall, cruelty, family separation, keeping them in Mexico, etc., and what have we accomplished? Nothing but causing more hardship. What we haven't tried? A Gang of 8 plan that allows these immigrants to stay if they can find work.

And sorry, these immigrants aren't going to take our jerbs (Southpark Reference from a 2004 episode). Yes, for 20 years, nothing has fundamentally changed. The only time we saw a decrease in undocumented immigrants was during the last recession. And we haven't had a large guest worker program since the Bracero Program ended in 1964.

With all of the people reportedly fleeing California, they have room for more.

So, these cities are already not able to take care of the poor and downtrodden and your suggestion is to send more to them and that we can do a better job? Of course, we can do a better job, but we are not doing a good job with our American homeless now. And I really appreciate how you through in the brown colored people. I don't think race has been brought into this discussion at this point, but you can count on those who think they are so well intentioned to look at the skin color for everything. I don't really care what color skin the asylum seeker has; we can't handle what we have already allowed in. Some court dates are like 2-3 years out, so we are just going to pay for them till then? Yes, a massive overhaul of the immigration policy is needed, but that is a longer-term fix. We need a fix today, not months or years from now. Neither political party wants to fix the root problem because then we couldn't say you are for open borders and you couldn't say we are racist, so it what it is right now, and it needs a quick fix with longer term fixes to come.

it’s surprising we don’t read more about the actual transportation of the migrants. As of 10/10 Texas had bused over 50k. That’s substantial.
I looked around but didn’t see much on it. The logistics, etc.

“Texas has bused more than 50,000 migrants from the border to major U.S. cities across the country — and the effort is ramping up.”

About 30% of homeless has a serious mental condition that makes it impossible for them to hold down a job without, at minimum, taking meds. Even then, some need to be institutionalized. About 50% of homeless have a serious addiction problem and also need some sort of help or intervention to be able to hold down a job and get help. We need to do a better job here. Still, if we're looking at the homeless to help our labor issues, it's a drop in the bucket. Still have over 3 million job openings more than unemployed. And total US homeless population? About 600,000.

The quick fix is the same as the long fix. An expanded guest worker program. Make the immigrants pay for a guest worker visa while they are awaiting their asylum hearing. If they don't show up for the hearing, then they get deported. Show up and lose asylum, stay on the guest visa. Win the asylum, which is rare, they get their guest worker visa monies back.

Everything and anything else we have tried has failed. It's throwing good money down the toilet after bad.

We have very rarely agreed on much from an immigration standpoint, but the one thing I like what you are saying is a work visa for those seeking asylum. In my opinion there is no reason we are giving them food and housing and not expecting them to work. Give them visa and a court date and send them on their way. I really don't understand why these asylum seekers can't be working until they get their court date. Makes zero sense to me.

This is one day at a small little piece of land on the expansive border. These POS politicians and billionaires supporting them are at fault. Every town is a border town.

If you live in Florida, you wouldn't. Texas isn't shipping any to FLA. They're busing them to sanctuary cities, and libby strongholds, so that they can feel the pinch of the elephant in the room they pretend doesn't exist, because (sans Texas and Florida's sharing of this *national resource*) it doesn't effect them.

Funny as hell when it does, though...

What about any "abandoned" bases? I'lll be honest, I am not sure if the military has any.

First, can you even find Lukeville on a map without help?

Second, who's fault is it? Just how desperate do you think you have to be to walk from Ecuador all the way to Arizona? It would take months and is over a 1,000 mile trip. But it's POS politicians in the US and billionaires supporting them at fault that these desperate people feel there is nothing in their home country, and it's better to risk a long trip so they can be treated as vermin in the US?

And who's fault is it that we have 8 million undocumented workers in our work force? It's not like this is a new problem either. We imported millions of legal workers during the Bracero era, and Reagan made millions more legal with his amnesty in 1986. Isn't time to finally understand that we have a demand for immigrant labor, and instead of trying to deny supply from meeting with demand with laws and walls that accomplish nothing, let's change the law to let supply meet demand in a legal manner.

By the way, on the Mexican side of Lukeville is the town of Sonoyta. Tiny border town of around 13,000. On the US side, there's nothing but the border crossing. That's because on the US side, outside of the crossing is protected land with the Organ Pipe National Monument. There really isn't any town until about 35 minutes north when you hit Ajo, AZ, though there is a gas station in Why, AZ, which isn't always open, about 25 minutes N of the border. Lukeville is the main crossing for people going to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) in Mexico.
