I hate Trump as a man, but he won, and I try to be a good sport. Let’s all hope he makes us a better country. How could one wish for anything else?

 

And Tik Tok/Facebook crap. Remember when the networks and CNN would do the results at night but then you went to bed and woke up the next day to find out who won? Life goes on.

Curious. Were you up for 4 straight years gnashing your teeth about Joe "stealing" victory from Trump? Oh yea. I forgot. We saw it daily. Nevermind.

 

I used it as my basis to follow the election. Went over to Trump quickly and kept progressing through the night. By 10pm it was pinned pretty far to the right.

 

No he didn’t over perform the pundits and pollsters had it wrong….. AGAIN

I’ll assume she’s young and also engaged in this political cycle. More than being spoiled, young people can often be idealistic as they first get involved in politics. It’s good she’s involved and cares, either as a trump follower or opposing him.

imo, its specifically about Trump. I’ve seen many elections, but I’ve never seen the level of pessimism about the country following his win like that from those who oppose him. Many women, rightly or wrongly, associate Trump with misogyny and hate. A few specific examples: if their daughter is a Taylor Swift fan, she might have seen Trump express his ‘hate’ for Swift, Elon Musk comment about wanting to impregnate her, and rally attendees using derogatory language toward her (calling her names, c-word, labeling her a ‘devil,’ etc.). There’s also the infamous audio of Trump bragging about assaulting women. These interviews and audio clips circulated widely on TikTok.

For a young woman, hearing such rhetoric from middle-aged men, including a former president, can be hard to ignore—and in her view, that ‘dark entity’ won.

 

It’s their media sources telling them how to feel.
Trump isn’t that special or powerful.
Let go of the libbie media and you don’t worry about stupid politics like they do.
Libbie media exaggerates way too much and the gullible are fools for buying it.

 

Let me put it this way. I'm not losing sleep over the fact that Kamala Harris isn't POTUS. If anything, that makes the blow easier.

I did want to see you guys cry, so I'll have to eat that.

But, it is what it is. Trump is a coin flip, so we'll just have to wait and see. It could go really bad or - if he listens to the right people - be fine or even good. I'll just have to go with my friends who voted for Trump with the belief that he wouldn't follow through with most of the things he says.

 

When analyzing the current mood and climate, I'm not sure that the 1990's offers the best comparisons. A lot has changed since then including the prevalence of social media and increased polarization. To use more recent comparisons, there were certainly a lot of distraught people after both the 2016 election and the 2020 election.

 

In this case, the young women is seeing everything firsthand, actual audio & video. Younger adults, especially, get the majority of their ‘news’ from social media, particularly TikTok. For those under 30, blaming it on a monolithic ‘liberal media’ and ‘it’s the mainstream media’s fault’ just doesn’t hold up as much as it might for older generations.
